Obit: Richard Kaye @ 81...helped introduce classical music to radio listeners

Mr. Kaye, who combined the technical acumen of an electrical engineer with the discerning taste of a classical music aficionado, died of complications from diabetes Nov. 29 in his Newton home. Overseer emeritus for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, he had held nearly every job at WCRB. He was 81, and lived in Newton.

Thank you for posting this, Cranky Yankee. Read it over breakfast this morning. It is too bad that someone has to pass away in order to be recognized, but better late than never. Just another reminder that the good work done by WCRB people of the past is in need of fresh, young faces to carry on the tradition created by these wonderful pioneers.

I can't remember who it was but on the final broadcast of WCRB at 102.5, the DJ said that someone at the station had chosen Copland's "Rodeo" as the final piece to be broadcast at that frequency. May have been
him; they said it was someone who had been at that station for a long time (but who knows, maybe someone
else)

This obit should have run in November, not weeks later during a holiday weekend. It's too bad he couldn't stop the trashing of WCRB that has taken place in the past decade, and looks as though it will continue under Nassau.

I believe the final air personality, new PD Mark Edwards, mentioned that it was Dave MacNeill, host of the BSO broadcasts, who picked "Rodeo" as the final piece.
