Myron Floren, who used his accordion to entertain millions on ''The Lawrence Welk Show," died yesterday. He was 85.

According to a syndication manager for the show, Mr. Floren died of cancer at his home near Los Angeles.

Mr. Floren joined Welk's band in 1950 and stayed until the television show ended in 1982.

Richard Eastham, a singer-actor who went from starring on Broadway opposite Mary Martin in ''South Pacific" to costarring in the 1950s TV western ''Tombstone Territory," has died. He was 89.

If my memory serves me correct, Welk retired and disbanded his orchestra shortly after his TV show ended his long run. After the last "Welk Show" taping in 1982, the orchestra went on tour for several months. I think Welk retired at the conclusion of that tour.

Didn't Myron Floren then form a new orchestra featuring several "Welk Show" alumni as well as some talented young traditional jazz musicians?? I thought Floren had his own band which did a lot of touring until a year or two ago.
