Obituary: Chris Economaki, Longtime Motor Sports Commentator

Bill DeFelice said:
IIRC I watched him on CBS with certain motorsport telecasts. I don't honestly remember if he did Nascar races or not.

He was more of a commentator than a broadcaster on NASCAR but he worked behind the scenes and through his National Speed Sport magazine to push NASCAR to become a national attraction from its former Southern-only roots.

Had no idea Chris had died or was that old (just found this thread). RIP Chris. This viewer grew up with you.

BTW I am posting this, with sad appropriateness, from the public library in Watkins Glen, NY where I am vacationing.

Perhaps the most beautiful race track and surrounding area in the world. Chris would appreciate that.

I've been going to races there with my dad since the 1970s, and he's been going since they were racing in the streets in 1952. Yes, a very appropriate place to be posting from, ixnay.

You coming up Rochester way at all?
