OCTOBER PPMS (106.7 RUNS OUT OF GAS)

Here we go! It's a race now.
Boogity boogity boogity! Except Rock100.5 is already a lap or two down.

On the 106.7 part of the tread, I was just listening and the live announcers are saying the WYAY call letters as part of the station position statement. I wonder is this on the "mic flag" (does anybody used them anymore) or some huge print sign taped to the copy holder and below the clock?

Since Clear Channel seems to be joining in on the FM news/talk trend, is WGST finally going to get an FM at some point? 105.3? The fact that 'GST stays AM only, just given the signal issues, amazes me.

WGST is probably going to get a translator. It will be at 92.3 - 99 watts at around 1000 feet. It will be directional to protect a station to the northeast. The signal will be decent around most of the inner counties....just like the Cumulus translators with the exception of 97.9. That one performs better than all the others so far - it's a full market signal.

Which means that Gwinnett gets screwed again:

Actually, the [email protected] translator is just about as good as 97.9, both on paper and in practice, at least in the NE quadrant. 93.7 is up to 220W but seems to have more interference/less quieting.

That's right. And it will be coming soon.

98.9 does not work very well in the west metro counties. It didn't work very well at 99.1 either.

Because of the Tallapoosa and Macon stations, respectively, I presume? 99W at 99.1 probably didn't help, either.

102.9 is a mess in Gwinnett--sometimes I get the translator, WDUN-FM, and Columbus all at the same time. Usually it's the translator and WDUN-FM fighting it out.

I still think WGST needs better than a translator. Put Spanish on the translator and WGST on a higher powered signal.

As far as Journey is concerned, I just saw that Journey in Cincinnati is tanking with a 1 something, and on a full market signal - if I were Cumulus, I don't think I'd even attempt it on 106.7/100.5. iIt's not even doing great on the translator. I don't see them being able to compete with B or Star.

Been my experience with 99X on 98.9. Very poor signal in Cobb. when I leave Kennestone at morning drive (around 0800), lots of station swapping as I drive to Smyrna from Marietta down Fairground St to South Cobb Dr. Hear what sounds like an A/C station, never can get a station ID, possibly South Carolina? It may just be the morning tropo but it's enough to make 99X hard to listen to. 97.9, OTOH, is rock solid. occasionally I'll hear some interference from the Macon station at high points, but otherwise solid. I carried that signal all the way down south to near Griffin on the way to Macon last month. Not bad for a translator. 98.9 dies just into Clayton county.

(keep in mind, I've got a full 5/8 wave metal whip on my 2005 Elantra, and a decent receiver, an Eclipse CD2000- which has one of the best front ends of an aftermarket radio I've heard in a while. Got it for free. also has 5V preamp outputs and can handle HD radio if I can ever find a reasonably priced module for it)

In Cincinatti Cumulus runs a mainstream AC Warm 98 along with the Journey format. Plus Hubbard has a Hot has longtime Hot AC WKRQ Q102 that literaly creams the Journey there. Cumulus run a classic rock and a classic hits station there so the Journey ther sounds like a hot ac more than the 80's and 90's format you have.

This might of already been posted, but will throw it out there again... Has anyone noticed that they are using their call letters in their promos... "Atlanta's Greatest Hits WYAY 1067." I honestly can't remember hearing this (with the exception of legal ids) before.

Honestly, I really can't remember the last time that I heard a "mainstream" radio station use their call letters in their promos.

Think a change in moniker/imaging is forthcoming and they might be trying to provide some continuity to avoid losing current listeners?
