OFFICIAL: 1010XL Will Be The New Home of Lex & Terry

OFFICIAL: Response from the Sports Director at WJXT concerning his show

Hi,

New here, been reading this site for several years now. I'd like to chime in concerning Lex and Terry. A response from Sam Kouvaris, Sports Director for WJXT, Channel 4 in Jacksonville was given tonight concerning his show on 1010XL on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/WJXT4SamKouvaris

Which if your not on Facebook or choose not to click on it... well, here goes...

WJXT4 Sam Kouvaris

Just thought I'd let everybody know that I've been told by the management at 1010XL that March 31st will be our last day on the air there. They've signed Lex and Terry to do the mornings and they're moving SFR with Dan and Jeff to my time slot, leaving us without a home (for now). Something good will turn up and we'll be on somewhere soon I'm sure! Thanks for all of your support and I'll have more on this later.

Heh heh

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Lex & Terry will be on....

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

God, this is rich!!! They're getting the old "Ron & Ron" treatment!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

It's called searching for any "valid" reason to let someone go. It happens all the time in radio and other industries. By way of example, I was let go from my first radio job for "non-performance" to make room for someone more "desirable". The fact is I had the number one day-part at my station. And I still have the ratings report to back it up although it's quite old now. My replacement only lasted 4-months before moving on to a much bigger station in a much bigger market. The bottom line is making excuses to let someone go is really nothing new although I agree with you that logically it conflicts with reasonable right reasoning under the circumstances you described. From a business perspective it make perfect sense. It's just the nature of the business.

What a deal. (not)
Sam used to sit in with L&T at WFYV back in the day, and talked with them on the air, even after their move to Dallas. Now he gets the boot from this station to make room for their show. ???

Sam exudes class. He'd have a nice little slander suit on his hands against XL if he were "that kind of guy".

XL, Lex & Terry. 3 peas in a pod.

Since when, especially since consolidation, has radio been fair? It's a cut-throat business.

Sad?

Yes.

I will say that when I was laid off from my last radio gig - they cut most of the part timers - my PD actually drove
down to the station on a Sunday evening to give me the news face to face. There are still some classy people out there and you've got to really respect them because the biz climate right now encourages treating people like dirt.

Why on gods green earth put on a very stupid and boring show unless they (1010xl) is getting paid by them to be put on

another thought
why would a sports station put on a non-sports show it would have been better if you wanted to put on another show to put on a show from your network

Lex & Terry's show is targeting guys. They are a guy show. It makes perfect sense to put them on 1010XL. 1010XL targets GUYS!

Actually I think that they target another decade, which ended with with the name of a famous Prince song.

I like having SFR in middays because I drive around a lot more in middays...not as much of a status daypart though. Someone called them yesterday and said they "might like L&T more if he was 15 and it was 20 years ago" To me this is about like when Cox brought Greaseman back

In some markets so called sports stations are really guy talk stations. So having L&T on 1010XL is not so far fetched.

Back when Cox dismissed L&T from Rock 105, many of us questioned the logic of that decision. But Cox Radio was spot on. Ratings dipped at Rock 105 for awhile after L&T were gone but I think that had more to do with what followed sucked even more than L&T and let’s face it, the classic rock format in Jax seemed to have run its course.

I always thought L&T were overrated. When X102.9 came on the scene, they were solidly trounced. You have to wonder if L&T actually had more to do with Planet’s demise than anything else. Maybe a music intensive morning show would have been more competitive but we’ll never know.

As far as Greaseman and even Mancow for that matter, they may have just been on the wrong station in a tired format. Perhaps a guy talk/sports format would have been a better fit but talent costs money and well we know how that goes.

When 106.5 first aired, we learned that "guy talk", for some strange reason, doesn't work in Jax. I also maintain that, no matter how many charity events you hold in your (former) home market, when one of the main talents leans so far to the left (Terrance Jaymes), it has a way of turning off your P1's.

Hindsight being 20/20, we now know Planet is (was) the far superior station to the Rock/X combo that Cox has offered us. I'd hate to think L&T is what led to its demise, intentionally or unintentionally.

L&T and CC were joined at the hip by contract to carry the show on Planet 107.3. Really, what options did CC have? Even if CC decided to fight it out, it wasn’t realistic they could have worked out a deal moving them to say 930 The Fox. Planet’s brand took a big hit and there was financial bleeding. The competition was pumping away with music in the morning while L&T were doing the same old routine with some bimbette.

Dismissing the talent on the other dayparts to save some bucks while keeping L&T on would not have made sense either as that would have just pissed off whatever listeners remained even more. I like to deal in reality and the fact is L&T did not have what it takes to hold on to their audience and be the critical lead in to the rest of the day. Listeners bailed and this is just reality. I suspect Cox Radio considered L&T vulnerable and I would bet the farm that played heavy with the decision to challenge Planet head-on.
