Official Talk Radio Rookie of the Year Award!

So please; cut Santos the same break that you would like to get for yourself in that situation.
Yeah, but it would be a lot easier to cut him slack if I thought he was a nice guy (I've met him twice, I think, and I don't think he's a nice guy) or if I thought he was doing the best job that he could be doing with the show under the circumstances. (Unfortunately, I don't think that either.) My initial reaction to the show was that it wasn't bad enough to be called painful to listen to. However, each time I've tuned in, I've lasted maybe 20 minutes, tops. Then I had to force myself not to shut the radio off and I succumbed to that temptation before a total of 30 minutes had elapsed.

If my reactions are typical, the program needs a major rework if there is to be any hope for it. I don't see how he can afford additional talent, but he needs someone else to work with him. He is NOT strong enough to carry the show alone. He needs someone who can work with him and his huge ego (extremely tall order) and who is bright enough and enough of a radio pro to really add something. Getting the wrong person would be a major disaster!

Fair enough. Can't argue much with that.

Rookie of the Year???

I'm all for the Progressive agenda as opposed to the conservative one....but its obvious I need to get a pair of the Rose Colored Glasses that you look at the world through...Or maybe your soooooo tone deaf that anything, specifically Santos, even sounds good!

What nonsense!!! He couldn't host a show if his career depended on it! Its obvious he's got some people backing him that have money, but it makes you wonder if they've ever heard his show or know what good radio hosting sounds like, because calling him awful would be an insult to awful...

A good host doesn't fill his show entirely with guests....not to mention the hypocrasy that goes on by him...I won't even get into that.

I'm a progressive...Santos is NOT the guy to represent us!

Obviously, the person who wrote this topic is either one of his people or himself, to stroke his ego!

As is well known; Limbaugh went for YEARS before he turned any profit. And his sugar daddy; the Republican Party. Obviously, they didn't do that because Rush has a cute face. They did it so they could get their issues articulated on the airwaves.

Ummm....Can you please cite some source for this information?

LImbaugh didn't make a profit in Sacramento? That would be news to KFBK.

No profit at WABC? That would be news to Ed McLaughlin.

Maybe because he made no profit for WABC...that's why they gave him a network show?

And, when did the Republican party (his sugar daddy?) give Limbaugh a dime?

Who is the ..."they" that you are referring to?

Where do you get this stuff?

They post stuff like that on MoveOn.org all the time, though no one pays much attention. The GOP gets hammered by Rush a lot, so the "Sugar Daddy" stuff doesn't seem to be working. Anyhow, Rush describes himself as a Conservative - not Republican (he has in fact passed his leadership position in the party on to Colin Powell!).

And how exactly has that been measured?

Ever hear of ratings? Do you know that they come out every week?

AFAIK. WWZN does not encode for the PPM and therefore will not show up at all in Arbitron's ratings. Nobody requires stations to encode and in the case of brokered-time stations like WWZN, there does not appear to be a financial incentive for station management to spend the money for the installation. I think it is unlikely that WWZN will encode but the only way they are likely to do so is if Jeff Santos or his backers spring for the cost of installing the equipment. As far as I can tell, encoding for PPM is not on their RADAR screen. Moreover, I doubt that it ought to be, since brokered-time niche formats don't pull enough listeners for the program providers to "monetize" the ratings.

It was WABC that made the offer to Rush to come to New York in the first place from KFBK. Hell, he did a two-hour WABC-only show prior to the national show (that WABC could not air b/c of network committments). That's four hours non-stop in essence, which became the three-hour show once WABC could finally clear it.

If there was anyone that benefited from the effort, it was Dr. Dean Edell. His show (and it is a good one still) was cleared on many major market stations as part of a two-fer that Ed McLaughlin arranged. And in many ways, it was the selling point to stations at first, simply because Edell is a one-hour medical advice show. It was beneficial for all involved. To this day, there are several stations that still carry both Edell and Rush, although Edell is usually on as a weekend filler or on a three or four hour programming block.

Obviously you haven't heard of "They, Inc." - it's a rather extensive network of conjecture, out-of-context, lies, pandering and/or manipulation. That or the internets. Either way, you lie to yourself so much that you believe what you want to believe. Apparently, the sky is purple polka-dotted to some.

When it was a talk station, WMRE 1510 used to have the slogan "Stay on top"

Dan is right about Santos buying the time; he's not a part of WWZN ownership or management. His RevolutionBoston website is for the time he's buying while 1510thezone.com has more than a few
errors; unless he's decided to come back and nobody told me, they list Peter B. Collins several times,
list "Time out For Trivia" as being Mondays 2-3 pm, and mis-spell the name of the dollar-a-holler
preacher as "Brother Stiars". On the left side of the page the only mention of the prog talk is
"Jeff Santos" though the schedule page is accurate--other than what I said above.

The WWZN background image is still the Celtics' parquet floor (Butter? No, Par-kay :) ) even though
they haven't had Celtics rights for several years.

WWZN did strip off mention of "Boston's Sports Station" from the logo, and part of the masthead is the background from Santos' website. But why wouldn't they remove the "Zone" logo for a generic "WWZN AM-1510" logo? It's pretty much where they are now. (And if I were a Boston-area buisness in need of a website, I wouldn't really look at 'Animal 57' - just by looking at WWZN's website. If that even still exists. Bang-up job, boys...)

Oh, and Ralph Gordon "Stiars" doesn't really deserve to have his name spelled correctly, IMHO.
