Air America failed because they did not have compelling programming. Put good programming on bad signals and the people will eventually find you. You think Rush started out on 50,000 watt blowtorches? Everytime liberal talk fails, the excuse is always something other than the programming. This country is basicly center/right. the listeners do not want to hear ad hominem attacks on their president or their political idealogy.

You're right, Rush didn't start on 50kw blowtorches. But twenty years ago, the AM band had a cume compared to today. So the business plan of using down and out AM signals today to launch a national programming service is a bad idea.

As far as the ad hominem attacks on their president or political idealogy, that is what Rush, Beck and others do each day.

Seriously, Francene will be a tough act to follow. By the PDs ad, looks like they want somebody to not only do a great show...with all the prep involved...but to get involved in the community off the air. You can't just "do your four and be out the door" -- or three in WHAS' case.

Wouldn't Joe have an instant following if he were hired? Didn't he pull double duty for a few months during the last vacancy? IMHO, let Joe have the show. Joe puts on a true news/talk program when Meiners is gone, and smoothly run show. Denton Randall would be my 2nd choice for the 9 to noon show. His Sunday program was always entertaining and informative.
 
It's not about whose "turn" it is. It's about who can wind up and throw fastballs on a daily basis.

IMHO, they owe it to their listeners to do a thorough search for the best talent(s) available.
 
I think they need to get someone that has lived in louisville for awhile. Do noy do a nationwide search. A local one.

I bet joe gets the gig.

I was surprise to learn francene had turned down other opportunities in bigger markets.Always thought francene would leave louisville.

Exactly. If they hire Joe or Denton, the big question will be why they didn't hire Joe or Denton when John Ziegler left. Hiring them now would look like they are willing to downgrade.

Neither Francene nor Ziegler were from Louisville. I'm betting the next person in that chair won't be either.

I believe both of them had other jobs. Joe was doing the nighttime show from 9 to midnight, and being the good sport and filling-in on the morning shift too. Denton was working at Dare to Care weekdays, and still doing the Sunday show.
 
You know our little Francene had to have had something to do with that West Virginia win over the weekend! :) The girl's gptta move from the hardwood to the diamond soon to do her best "Angels in the Outfield" bit for her Bats. Wouldn't it be something if the Bats did have an amazing season this year? Tiime will tell. Maybe they could wear a special patch to honor her and her fund.
