OK WGVC....it's happening in NYC, time to bring back the oldies!

With WCBS-FM/NYC switching back to Oldies (with a few 80s songs to be included also) on Thursday at 1:01PM EST, WGVC should follow suit and go back to Oldies or at least a AC Oldies with 60s, 70s and 80s. Female talk with no ratings continuing is just a joke. Time to yank it! If CBS is able to do it in NYC, seems Entercom certainly could in Greenville. They were wrong to drop it and they're fixing it. Same thing happened in Savannah, Charleston WV and other places. They followed the 'trend' of dropping Oldies [just like Entercom with WGVC] hoping for a quick ratings boost it failed and they came to their senses and brought the format back with the same, familiar sound or an updated one (KFRC/San Fransisco).

Does anyone see the ever-so-struggling WGVC doing this? They're going to have to do something soon and it seems logical.

I don't know, but I was in town a couple of weeks ago and listened in...WGVC has to be one of the most horrible radio trainwrecks I've heard in a while. No wonder nobody listens...the content is horrible! Surely nobody really honestly thinks this format is a good idea.

It's time for something...for sure...Oldies sounds like a good option.

I agree (as does everyone else) that it's time for something different at WGVC.

The question is... What's holding Entercom back? How do you justify wasting that 25,000 watt FM signal on a satellite talk format? I don't think I could justify that format on a weak AM signal.

So what's going on? Are they trying to save money and package this station with Magic or WORD? or do they just have so many stations they don't want to compete with each other?

Maybe Entercom should move the signal to Columbia and try to invest in another station in the Cola market for a combo if they can't make it up in G'ville.

Move 106.3 back to a Newberry COL with a tx site which would cover Cola? I don't think so. 106.3 is in Simpsonville for good since it is the only full-powered radio license there. How ironic! Besides, Greenville/Spartanburg is a much larger radio market than Cola....

I know I wasn't being serious, ;D Figured they might as well throw the station away if they are gonna leave it the way it is.

My daddy had a saying that went like this, if it ain't broke, then don't fix it and that is what they should have done with the oldies forrmat. They should have left enough alone and let it do what it was doing because it was a good station and would be doing well now if they had left well enough alone.

Isn't it funny that they erase every negative comment made on their website but leave the FEW positive ones?

Could they have a contract with Greenstone to air that programming for a certain time? Thats all I can think of.

Yeah..that and the fact that they "know it all" and are never wrong on anything! It's the big reason terra radio is in the shape it's in. CC and Infinity are the same!

Meanwhile, here's a sample of what you would have heard on WGVC, courtesy of http://www.greenstonemedia.com

These are real segments I found on the website.

From Radio Ritas:
* New Beauty product line for dogs
* Girl could give birth to her sister!
* Dr. Robert Heaney talks about using Nuns in medical research
* Elisabeth Squires “The Boob Lady”

From Lisa Birnbach:
* What matters with Jane Fonda
* Sexy Panel
* Lisa discusses the constant terror “threat”
* Water tasting with Michael Mascha

From Rolonda:
* Dr. Jack Swanson: why are boys not being circumcised?
* “Swingers” two couples that own swinger clubs speak out
* Joia Mercedes: hair and makeup tips from a celebrity stylist

I agree Carolina, but it makes sense! Finding radio that makes sense is very difficult these days!

You're sadly correct Z. Nothing I've heard yet on WGVC makes sense! People just make fun of the programming, females included. I really don't think WGVC is very important to them, sort of like AM910 was to them while they owned it. They have the important stations like 'FBC, Magic, WORD, ROCK101 and Planet to some extent and 106.3 is on the back burner, it's just there.

Anyone on the inside know if Entercom's still positive about this format, giving it a certain amount of time, or what? They can't be too happy.

It is still one huge shame that they let the oldies format go and it is very obvious that they are regretting it now and it will be very interesting to see if they will admit to their stupid mistakes here and go back to what made them good.

Remember it took CBS two years one month and 11 days to realize what kind of mistake they made... I really like the feel and sound of the new CBS 101 and having a high bit stream makes my computer sound pretty darn good... If I am not listening to my own music on HD I am either listening to Slacker Radio or Sirius... I only got to hear GVC when they were oldies back in 2002 when me and my wife got married and for the most part the music was done pretty good... I don't remember who the jock was that was on the air, but he was kinda sleepy sounding, but the overall station was pretty good... CC1

WCBS does sound great. I (and probably many other fans) NEVER thought CBS Radio would have had the courage to swallow their pride, admit it was a mistake, and go back to what made them great AND admit it over the air when they launched. And this even made national news.

Yes, WGVC was a pretty sleepy sounding station, especially towards the end. It got stale by 2005 and needed to be freshened up a bit. I was hoping Entercom could have taken care of that after they took over.

We should just keep trying to knock sense into the skulls at 25 Garlington and flood their e-mail boxes. It helped with CBS-FM (or so they say) so maybe it'd work here..

Well, now that Greenstone Media is shutting down on August 17th, I wonder what'll happen to WGVC now? Looks like their programming didn't catch on anywhere else, either.

Yeah....any ideas what the new format will probably be? I don't see them keeping talk on 106 especially with WORD/WYRD. No sort of rock , they have that market cornered. I doubt any kind of AC or Hot AC, with Magic...probably not Rhythmic/CHR since WFBC has that type of lean. Then again, however, CC has two country stations though. The only logical choices would be

Country
Urban
Oldies/Classic Hits
Smooth Jazz
Sportstalk
Adult Hits

Update: R&R confirms, Greenstone will abandon the concept and shut down all operations effective Friday, August 17th.

Hallelujah....anything is better than the Radio Ritas!

If they indeed don't care about 106.3, and just write it off, then someone needs to jerk a knot in someone's backside. They had good numbers with the oldies, but couldn't see futher than the end of their nose! A 3 share in this market can make money. I just think the 'stupids' is running wild! They could have money with 910 also. It might not have been mass appeal though!
