Oldies 103.3 Starting To Delve More Into 80's Music

Heard earlier tonight:

All Night Long-Lionel Ritchie
I'm So Excited-Pointer Sisters
Fame-Irene Cara

Interesting! All three of these were in heavy rotation on 103.3 when it was WHTT!

As time goes on, one wonders if they will continue to expand their 80's playlist, dropping in 80's tunes with a "harder" edge... HTT classics such as as "Wouldn't It Be Good" by Nik Kershaw, or "Love My Way" by The Psychedellic Furs... wouldn't THAT be something!

Hmmm, everything but "Fame" was played regularly on WHTT, they rarely delved into any type of recurrents, well at least during the early days anyway. The songs mentioned were all played on WMJX at one time too.

I doubt that they would add "New Wave" to their playlist. I think that they will stick to the basic Contemporary "hits", such as #1's, Deneice Williams "Lets Hear It For The Boy", Kenny Loggins "Footloose", Men At Work titles, Culture Club top hits, Cyndi Lauper. Maybe Joan Jett, J. Geils Band, of course Hall & Oates, you get the idea. :)

Oldies as I type is playing "Freeway of Love" by Aretha Franklin, a natural fit for the station. BTW, anyone notice that the 80's titles are all R&B/Rhythmic in nature?

If this is true,it's about F'n time. There really isn't any consistent 80's music played on the radio in this area. The exception being Joe Cortez of 98.5 FM and his excellent "Back to the 80's Friday nights" (7-midnight each Friday).Which is the definitive 80's show.Radiorama1,while I agree that those 2 hits(Kershaw & Psych Furs) are excellent 80's songs, neither were big enough on the 'pop' charts to ever get airplay on 103.3 FM. I imagine if they play 80's at all,it'll be from 'classic' '60 or '70s' artists or were really big sellers on the singles charts. The only places that play great marginal 80's hits are 'FNX's Leftover Lunch and WROR/Cortez' aforementioned show.

I could see WODS delving maybe into the Pet Shop Boys "West End Girls", however it is much more likely that they will play 80's POP/AC instead such as Wham!, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, etc.

IMO they could also get away with playing Culture Club, DeBarge, Dan Hartman ("I Can Dream About You"), Kool & the Gang's 80's hits (Fresh, Cherrish), etc. etc.

by the way I heard Mike 93.7 play what I guess is the full version of Rapper's Delight which had stuff
about how Superman was a sissy and it mentions some mild sexual stuff. To be honest I had
never heard the full version, only the radio single

>> he may be able to fly all through the night
but can he rock a party til the early light?
he cant satisfy you with his little worm
but i can bust you out with my super sperm

The full length version runs 15 MINUTES! I had to find an import CD (for around $20) before i could have the LONG version on CD.
