On-Air Marriage Proposals During Newscasts: Are You Bored With Them Yet?

They are only good if the people involved are among the top anchors at a specific station. There is a certain relatability here... as in we love watching you on tv, so we love watching this part of your life. (creepy, IMO). But if you are not known, perhaps a recent morning anchor or a weekend anchor, skip it please. Also, ask yourself is this is about ego, or something else. Really. And to answer the question, yes I'm bored with them. This could change, however, if someone said "no"! :) That would be good TV!

Just report the news please; the cold concrete floor of a dingy looking studio with fake wood accents is not my idea of high romance. As someone in a state where the current lieutenant governor and her state senator husband pretty much hooked up on their run both anchoring and reporting on the same station years back I find that I roll my eyes at station romances completely and can't stand them.

I don't even like them on morning shows either. On Thursday morning I flipped by GMA to see some rich entitled idiot from Chicago somehow get five minutes in a luxury car dealership to propose to his girlfriend live on national TV (unfortunately she said yes to this insufferable loon). In the first 25 minutes of the show, no less. Which should be spent digesting the news of the night as it has been done for years. It made me feel great that I've dumped GMA.

@searadiofreak: The video was dated Saturday, which leads me to believe they were weekend personnel. And I get the impression that they had been working weekends for at least five years.

LOL - I wonder if they'll be trying to get everyone else engaged now.

Did anyone see Howie Mandel's Fox special "Mobbed"? A flash mob was on hand for a proposal. It was a surprise for the bride-to-be, who had just been pranked and was crying because of the terrible thing her boyfriend did.

Not only did he propose, they had a dress for her, the license, her family flown in and the entire flash mob as guests for the wedding which took place immediately.

Your point is well-taken. Five years on weekends. Hmm.

There was an on-air proposal that I felt was very sincere, and was certainly not flashy in any way. The weather lady at VSB TV in Bermuda got quite the surprise. It's on YouTube...just search with vsb bermuda

Non-newscast example: on Thanksgiving Day 1985, I believe it was (unless I'm mistaken), Ahmad Rashad proposed on the air (on NFL '85, NBC's NFL pregame show then) to his future wife Phylicia Ayers. Does anyone here remember that?
