On the eve of the new FM talk station in the 'Ville: Who is it?

105.1 seems to be the best guess on this board. But does Main Line have the clout to steal Michael Savage from WHAS and Clear Channel? Does Savage jump at the chance to move to FM on a grossly inferior signal?

102.3 makes more sense than that. At least 102.3 has a decent signal over most of the city. But does Mainline blow up the Max for talk? If so, what happens to George, Linda, and Aaron?

What about 93.9? Does the switch of 1570 to oldies give us a clue? Does the management of WNDA know that WLCL is dropping it's classics format in favor of talk, and that is why they feel free to switch to the oldies format?

I don't think it could be Cox. They don't want to blow up any of their stations right now. It has to be one of the three above. I've been leaning toward 105.1, but have been troubled by the question of how they could pull it off. Now that WNDA has switched to oldies, I'm leaning toward 93.9.

Well Who ever is the new talker. Michael Savage was Yanked from WHAS along with Laura Ingraham from WNDA, thus the reason why WNDA went Oldies for. the New talker has Savage no matter what FM Freq its on

The ratings on 102.3 may not look all that wonderful, but they make a ton of bank! Its one of Mainlines better billers. If anything LRS has nothing to lose financially or ratings wise.

I'm taking a wild guess-- and say that it will be 105.9 WRVI, or 104.3 WAYI. I have a feeling that listener supported radio has taken a hit and they may be able to make by turning one of the signals to a traditional radio outlet. Remember, 105.9 was a pretty powerful signal as WQNF.

Way-FM Just got a hold of both those outlets in the past year. I don't see one of them getting blown up for a talk format. The new FM Talker will most likely be WLRS at 105.1

It has to be 105.1. As Patrick said, if they cared at all about the station, they would've fixed that terrrible sounding audio. I've removed them from my presets it sounds so bad.

I wonder if it the new talk station will simulcast on 101.3 and 105.1. The audio on both stations are horrible. I noticed the bad audio on WMJM since Saturday night and today's midday show was jockless through the first stopset. Tom Joyner was on this morning though.

Even though the currents playlist is narrow and the same old classic oldies rotate endlessly, WMJM is doing too well as an Urban AC to disturb for talk.

I wish Clear Channel would replicate WGVN, Georgetown/Lexington's excellent Urban Oldies format here in Louisville...they'd take chunks out of Magic 101.3!

The question now is WHEN will this change happen? Enough already! Whoever changes, get on with it!
Amen! I've sat in the car during lunch the past 2 days going up and down the dials of both AM and FM listening for any change-- trying to figure out which station is changing. I've even searched online for a hint on the talkers who are in the process of changing and found nothing.

Here's another thought-- Would any of the Spanish stations be changing to talk? WTUV (aka old WTMT) I believe has a pretty good signal especially out to the west-- and no telling what coverage it would have if WLAP in Lexington would go dark! I'm not very familiar with 105.7 or where it ranks in the ratings or in coverage area--not even sure of its calls at this point. What do you all think about this?

It's even harder to imagine WTUV "stealing" Mike Savage from WHAS than any of the others mentioned so far.

Plus i dont see CC taking WLAP dark anytime soon. unless the Company shuts down all the CC Stations
I've heard CC is heading for bankruptcy and burning thru tons of cash. Just how cash poor are they and would there be a buyer for a smaller market AM station like LAP?

This thread starts out with "on the eve"...When I was a kid, I thought Christmas Eve lasted forever...pales in comparison to this...

Speaking of Clear Channel, my friends in Armed Forces Radio/TV with connections to CC in the San Antonio area say that they've heard serious rumblings out of CC's corporate office for a couple of weeks now regarding the immediate future of the company. Something is imminent...is it re-re-restructuring? Station fire sales to raise cash? Who knows?

My guess is if your in a smaller CC market the stations are probly gonna be fire sold soon
Like a CC station in Lexington, KY?? What if a buyer can't be found?? Hey, kids! Let's put on a show to raise money to buy a radio station!

Do you remember when Hardinsburg's WULF-FM 94.3 tried a FM talk format in 1999? They went from Country to Talk and within months they were back to Country. I believe they identified themselves as WULF-FM Hardinsburg/Louisville. However, they never made a showing in the Louisville book. It would be hilarious if they were to go talk again.
