Delayed until June 17th...I can hear it now...early June..."only 92% of the workforce is employed...the other 8% can't afford converter boxes even with the coupons, therefore we must have another delay"...change we can believe in...indeed.
People won't be able to afford the antennas.
There's no difference between an antenna that receives analog and an antenna that receives HDTV (unless the stations changed channels). The people who'll be buying converter boxes already have an antenna. Where your antenna observation does have some merit is where snowy, weak signals have been watched for decades. They probably will have trouble & frustration.

This whole deal reminds me of a time back in the early 1980's...I used to buy 45 RPM records on a regular basis. Then the selection started dwindling, then stores stopped carrying them all together. I was happy with my 45's, but someone decided I shouldn't have access to them any longer. I was happy with my 45's, but I eventually became happier with CD's (after I recovered from having to buy an entire CD to get the 1 song I could get on a 45 before). Then came .mp3 downloads & I was able to not only select my 1 song again, but now I can select ANY song on the album & adjusted for inflation, at a far cheaper price than the 45 & with better quality to boot. A little off topic, but as one who isn't a huge fan of change & having things shoved down my throat, this too will adapt & work out fine...just strap on your seat belt, it may be a bumpy ride, but we'll get there.

I've heard conflicting information about what frequencies will be used for digital. One one hand, I heard it will no longer be VHF. On the other hand, there are some videos on You Tube of people getting sporadic-e skip on digital channels. Anyone know what's going on?

the majority of DTV stations are/will be UHF...but there's no shortage of VHF's, either...

here in Nashville the NBC affiliate is digital on 10 mapped to 4.1, 4.2...(analog 4)...
the CBS affiliate will be digital on 5 (current digital 56 mapped to 5,1, 5,2... analog 5)
and the PBS will be digital on 8 (current digital 46...analog 8)

the remaining VHF is analog on 2...digital 46 mapped to 2.1, 2.2...

So, we've had this new channel here called "8 Prime". It's a station that has classic TV shows and they say it's channel "8.1".

Does that mean VHF channel 8 only with a digital signal?

Not necessarily. Knowing the digital channels were in a different location, I wondered how they could say things like 2-2 when 2 was the analog channel. Later I found out the digital TV or converter box looks for a signal that is 2-2, even though it's likely on a frequency that isn't 2.

Although some stations are going back to the VHF frequecnies where their analog frequencies were if they have already switched.
