ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF INDIE 103.1

Seems that I got to this a little too late, but January 15th was the anniversary of the death of the beloved Indie 103.1. Any thoughts? What have all us former Indie listeners done to get our fix of new music? Are you still listening to the online stream?

Since Indie died I've been listening to KCRW. I actually like their music better than Indie especially after Jason Bentley took over Morning Becomes Eclectic. Rollins has a show on there too now.

I am listening to the online stream from time to time. I try to make Passport Approved on Saturday mornings appointment radio. However, it is still not as easy to just flip on an online stream as it is to turn on a radio. And, I say that as one who champions Internet radio and who has downloaded the Indie 103.1 app, and has also programmed the station into FStream.

I hope this incarnation of Indie remains/become viable, and hope it will ultimately make it onto one of Entravision's HD2 signals on either 103.1, 97.5, or (ideally) 107.1.

I've been checking out the online stream mainly, other than that I've been tuning to *gulp* KROQ. Hopefully Entravision could fix their mistake and have Indie on 107.1 soon. Or, at the least have it on the HD side on one of their stations...

EVC does not have the management in place to know how to run an Indie format. The GM of the spanish language stations wanted that third signal from the minute he walked in the dor six years ago. As it is, indications are that the Indie streaming will come to an end soon. Other than the guy who programs it, they have zero paid employees....no one selling ads, etc.

KCRW plays music after 8pm and all weekend too.. but if I'm in the car when they aren't playing music I keep them on for the NPR!

As an out-of-market Indie listener, I prefer the online stream to the previous over-the-air product...much better music, less mindless DJ patter, fewer commercials. I actually bought a document from LegalZoom.com recently, using the link from Indie, just to show my support! Indie online is one of the better places worldwide these days to hear new excellent music plus good vintage rock, and this is from someone who surfs around and compares stations a lot.

The station was also the first in LA to play Kings of Leon and Airborne Toxic Event, bands which are now heard on 98.7 and KROQ, so someone must care about them.

Fewer commercials sounds good to listen to, but the streaming is no longer even covering its expenses becauses it has so few commercials.

Jonesy was on Craig Ferguson's show recently, he's back on the interwebs doing a show. Don't recall what the site is. Boy that guy is a physical mess. He played EMI with some pickup band, was OK but not great.

The Indie people wanted the DJs that were still on the station to have more freedom in their programming. A.K.A. They wanted to let them say whatever the ---- they wanted ;D

That was the official line from Entravision....that Indie could be what it should be that way....the reality is EVC didn't care much for or about Indie. Upper management knew every piece of business being worked on by the sales staff for the Spanish language stations, but didn't even know the names of all the Indie employees. The station was the ugly stepchild. Just the way it goes at EVC. When Rolling Stone Magazine named Indie as the best radio station in America in 2008, every9one at Indie knew, but corporate did nothing to recognize their people for several weeks after that.

While I trust your expertise on the matter...the one Indie sales guy that was left in place for a few months was selling the streaming spots for about $10 each which is 1/20th of what they were getting with their poor ratings on the limited signal. Couldn't even drum up enough money to pay for himself and the two other paid employees. Now, even sales guy is gone.
