One year since the demise of news-talk WROW...

The Bridge is still tanking in the ratings (1.3 as of the last book), and it's been almost a year now and it doesn't show any promise... ::)
Why not put an urban AC on 100.9?

If that were the case, I'd move Jamz to 100.9 and put Urban AC on 96.3 instead... gold-leaning soft AC "Magic" on 100.9, country "Froggy" on 104.9 and 107.1, and Urban AC (perhaps Citadel's The Touch network maybe with a local morning show?) on 590 would work better (though Magic and B95 on FM would overlap too much, so I'd lean B95 more towards Hot AC myself) :)

OK the first two suggestions are OK, but if you already have urban AC on an FM, why do it on AM as well?

No, I'm referring to this arrangement:
92.3: No changes (mainstream CHR)
95.5: Lean more Hot AC to accommodate Magic's move back to FM (right now it's mainstream AC)
96.3: No changes here either (rhythmic CHR)
100.9: Put Magic back here (gold-leaning soft AC/standards)
104.9: Simulcast Froggy Country 107.1 in Glens Falls here (right now, locally-programmed single-signal Cat Country)
590: Put Urban AC here (right now it's Magic ;))

Not once did I mean to say put urban AC on both AM and FM :p

Why someone hasn't put a Talk Station on an FM signal to go after WGY is beyond me. Talk 1300 tries to counter program, but that's not working. I'd love an option to GY's super right wing blathering.

The reason is simple: there's simply not enough FM signals to go around... I would've loved to see liberal talk on 105.7 back when they were doing their all-Christmas stunt, but now I love Crush too much ;)

Maybe someone should buy 1460 and either put True Oldies or liberal talk on it (with an AM-to-FM translator either way)? :)

OK, I was just a little curious when you said the following in response to my comment on putting urban AC on 100.9:

"If that were the case, I'd move Jamz to 100.9 and put Urban AC on 96.3 instead... gold-leaning soft AC "Magic" on 100.9, country "Froggy" on 104.9 and 107.1, and Urban AC (perhaps Citadel's The Touch network maybe with a local morning show?) on 590 would work better"

The problem is, could you get people to go back to 100.9 if it changed back, and could they reclaim their 'old glory'? Usually when a station changes its format and sometime later returns to its old format, it has a difficult, if not impossible time trying to regain its old audience and sometimes respect.

I don't know that the ethnic population is like around Albany, Schenectady and Troy, but I surmise that there aren't too many blacks who live outside of the immediate capital area; hence my suggestion for putting urban AC on 100.9. With an urban AC there, your better within the target demographics that advertisers like to attract. With Magic, this is less true. Plus, how many people under the age of forth-five regardless of ethnicity will be willing to go to AM for music anymore? Granted one advantage that an urban AC would have at 590 is being able to enjoy those trips on the Thruway to Utica or Poughkeepsie or up to the lower Adirondacks and still being able to hear your station (at least during the daytime).

klutch00: AFAIK, Pittsburgh doesn't have any Mainstream CHR station (just a Rhythmic CHR, Kiss 96.1, and an Adult CHR, Star 100.7, I believe) and no more Urban after the demise of WAMO-AM/FM (it'd be funny if Anastos grabbed the WAMO (as in "AM Oldies") calls for 1460 if they bought it and put True Oldies on it, huh? That'd be the second time Pittsburgh-area calls surface in Albany ;)) and they're 8.2% Black... Albany is only 6.6% Black but still has two Rhythmics (Kiss and Jamz, which are both decent stations... though Kiss is technically a mainstream CHR, I count it as Rhythmic anyway)... but Rhythmic CHR is more of a mass-appeal format anyway :p

Urban AC would work in Albany, and would have a decent niche (I used to listen to WBLS sometimes when I lived in Newburgh but had to position the dial/radio just right to avoid interference from WRWD) in the market :D

If Magic stays on AM:
- 92.3: Mainstream CHR (FLY 92.3)
- 95.5: Mainstream AC (B95.5)
- 96.3: Urban AC (I would suggest the Love FM name again, but it's too close to "K-Love" :p)
- 100.9: Rhythmic CHR (move Jamz here)
- 104.9: Country (simulcast of Froggy 107.1)
- 590: Soft AC/Standards (Magic 590)

If Magic were to move back to FM, however:
- 92.3: Mainstream CHR (FLY 92.3)
- 95.5: Mainstream AC that leans Hot AC (think Fresh in NYC :))
- 96.3: Rhythmic CHR (Jamz 96.3)
- 100.9: Soft AC/Standards (Magic 100.9)
- 104.9: Country (simulcast of Froggy 107.1)
- 590: Urban AC

As for Cat Country, I've heard some of their imaging, and it doesn't fit the format. At all. Some of it sounds more like Hot AC or CHR imaging to me :p
