"Opie and Anthony" fans interrupt NewsCenter 5 live shot

Moments ago, as NewsCenter 5 reporter Jim Boyd started a liveshot intro from the Manomet section of Plymouth regarding the small earthquake earlier today, a couple of dip$--ts ran up behind him and started yelling something that sounded like "Opie and Anthony". Jim merely turned to look at one of the men while the producers immediately broke to the taped portion of Jim's story.

A minute or two later, when they came back live to Jim's "out-tro" to the story, the men were gone and Jim finished his story.

Kudos to Jim Boyd for not losing his cool. Earlier this year, a New York reporter lost his job when he dropped the F-bomb live on the air after that same thing happened.

Same thing happened to, I believe, Bianca De La Garza during the 5:00PM news on Fox 25 last week. And as with Jim Boyd, when the live shot returned, the fellow was gone.

That New York reporter was hired not too long ago at another New York TV Station. He had been with CBS/2 I beleive and now he's at WB/11.

No, that a few weeks ago. One of their hairbrains also jumped
into VB's live shot from the Cape in late May.

Their "assault on the media" is going to backfire big.
Xm and these clowns will have their asses sued soon.

He is Arthur Chien, who formerly worked at WFXT-25 here in Boston.

Sued on what grounds? As long as they do not touch the reporter, there is nothing to sue them on

There may be other reasons why there could be a lawsuit:

(1) The Opie and Anthony fans utter obscenities.

(2) The Opie and Anthony fans display banners with obscene language that somehows get shown before it can be cut-off.

(3) The Opie and Anthony fans include at least one woman who does a "WOW" act (taking off her shirt or blouse to reveal naked breats) within sight of the live-shot camera.

(4) The Opie and Anthony fans yell so loud that it breaks the reporter's "train of thought", and he yells back at them (not obscenities, as was the case with Arthur Chien, but something like "Get Out Of Here! We're On The Air!.....As I was saying, the Mayor and City Council are still at odds..").

Lastly, kudos to Jim Boyd of WCVB-5 for keeping his cool. He's a veteran reporter (over 35 years in the business and well over 30 years at WCVB) who has also anchored there. His long experience in the business helped him "do the right thing".

Fans who try to conduct an "assault on the media" are under EXPLICIT instructions NOT to do point #1 & #2. None have done this as of yet.

Already happened. A few years back an O&A fan (under no direction from O&A if I remember right) flashed the Today show camera as it went down the crowd. Even got the hosts to comment.

If Chien hasn't sued for this by now, I don't think there is much there. He could qualify as the number one person to lead teh lawsuit crusade on point #4

I'll give a major kudos to Jim for not breaking on this. He has always been a fave of mine.

Well, so little do you know. There's an organized group called Newsbreakers- basically a bunch of rich college kids with too much time on their hands(look it up - http://www.newsbreakers.org/ -- that's where O&A ripped off their idea). In some cases, these numbskulls have been getting physical with reporters on live shots around the country. They're getting arrested and being taken to court. You know of O&A immitators is going to do something stupid one day...Just watch.

Same Thing on 4 in Lowell on Friday

They pulled the same crap on Ch 4 tonight as one of their reporters was doing a street report from Lowell. All I saw was some kid screaming holding up an XM Satellite sign. Pretty juvenile.

"Disruption of buisness".

The cops can also arrest them for disturbing the peace as well.

With Directv switching it's Music Service from Music Choice to XM this week.
I would assume thier potential audience is now more than doubled.

Probably trying to get the Directv folk to tune in.

HAhaha well if you listened to O&A you'd know that O&A already addressed the Newsbreakers issue MONTHS ago and brought up examples how their material PRE-DATES Newsbreakers.

So when the newsreporters chase you around, can you arrest them as well?
