Opie & Anthony Fans Disrupt WFXT-25 News Live Shot

J

Joseph_Gallant

Guest
Tonight (September 14th) at 10:22 P.M. EDT, during it's regular 10 P.M. newscast, WFXT-25 reporter Bianca De La Garza did a live shot outside of the station's satellite studio on the corner of Beacon and Park Strets.

Behind De La Garza, several fans of Opie and Anthony disrupted the live shot, screaming about their favorite shock jocks, and holding up O&A signs.

The station interrupted her live shot to show a taped piece she had done, about a proposed law that would result in hefty fines or even jail time for motorists who do not wipe snow off the roofs, engine hoods, or trunk hoods of their cars.

After the taped portion of the story aired, the newscast cut back to the studio.

WFXT may want to think twice about doing any more live shots outside their satellite studio.

I'm not too surprised that Opie and Anthony fans would disrupt a live shot in Boston, given that O&A once worked at WAAF-107.3.

It's certainly not the first time this has happened. There's been several on 25, 4, and 7. O&A run a contest, where every month, the best "assault on the media" in the country gets prizes.

It's really childish. It serves no purpose at all, and isn't even that funny.

There was talk at one time about making it illegal to intentionally disrupt a live broadcast... too bad this will never actually become law.

See, i think the legitimate broadcasting companies should give a cash award to those who create the best "assault FROM the media"...where the reporter (in this case, bianca), turns around and TASERS the 400lb virgin that pays $12.95 a month to listen to them.

at that point, its self protection...

although, fox, cmon. you have the studio. do it inside your studio.

Well I am an O&A fan, not a 400lb virgin, but a rather productive cog in the white collar community and a magna *** laude degree recipient who hits the gym 6 days a week and twice a day 3 of those 6 days. So I’ll refrain from derogatorily painting you with a broad brush using insipid, inaccurate comments.

O&A do this as a marketing tool and it stems from their massive dislike for the media. How about a contest for a reporter that reports on a story FULLY without shooting from the hip and not checking facts? How about a contest for the reporter that doesn’t throw a mic in people’s face immediately after a time of travesty? How about stations reading news rather than having to rely on faux scare tactics in order to wrangle viewers? Every station does it then claims they don’t sink to “lowbrow” levels like Fox tends to. O&A do not make excuses for what they had done during their “storied” career, but they do heavily despise the half-ass way it was reported. I listened to them with WAAF, syndicated show on WBCN and currently on XM. I listened all day during their Menino incident, all day during their “Sex for Sam” incident and I’ll probably be listening to the next time they get in hot water. I know the hot air blown by the Menino camp during the incident which was almost farcical. O&A have happily played news intro snippets and read published articles about their NY debacle. I can openly laugh along with them hearing how the stories were thrown together without full knowledge of many of the facts. How reporters like Dan Hausle threw mics in their faces immediately after finding out they were fired (they hardly had a moment to absorb the firing themselves since the station distanced itself from O&A because of pressure via Menino).

There was nothing else going on in the big city that couldn’t be more important or interesting than a bit in the middle of September regarding how to shovel and brush snow off your car? That is what you call a slow news day. Where are all the stories about sharks? Is that scare tactic over?

Oh, and THIS particular listeneer pays $12.95 a month to listen to a LOT more than Opie & Anthony. I have been turned off of Terrestrial radio for quite a while now and XM/Sirius offer a LOT more of what I want to listen to than regualr radio. And since I can listen to all of it while I am in the office, it makes the $12.95 worth every penny

AllForADeuce...

As a former O&A Listener (I listened and laughed my ass off during the last Sex For Sam)...I know that not all listeners are 400lb virgins. However, that guy who came up behind her was, in fact, 400lb...and I am willing to put down money on his virginity.

I am on FoundryMusic.com weekly, downloading WOW pictures and Media Attack videos. I think they are hilarious.

But I would love to see, just once, a reporter spin around and shoot 50,000 volts through his walrus-like body. He'll start lactating and crying for his mother, and it would still be hilarious.

He was getting a little close to her during the latest gimmick, though...a little too close. There have been other great ones (Arthur Chi'en) where they dont touch the talent.

Now although, my child, you can use big words to try to prove yourself, if you are a productive cog, you certainly wouldn't have time to type a War and Peace response.

Now shut your mouth, and go upstairs. Your mom needs help setting the table.

"marketing tool", hardly. Idiot stunt, is a better way of putting it. While they may have a "massive dislike" for the media, this does NOT give them the right to disrupt stations from doing their own newscasts and operations. Would they like it if someone who hated their program in the middle of a bit, ran into the studio, yanked the mic from them and started yelling "CNN Rules".
It would be pretty stupid and no one would consider it a marketing tool for CNN.

While your opinions on the news media could be considered valid, and I am not going to change the jist of this thread to a "what do local TV stations do wrong" thread, the fact still remains, it is still downright moronic to go and disrupt a local tv station from doing a live shot because you don't like what they do. Period. Here is an idea, why not take a high road to this, and report the news BETTER than the local media does, or offer themselves as consultants.

Well thats tough for them. They got what they deserved from where they worked and because of the fact they were public figures (Yes radio people are) in a major radio market, they pulled a lame stunt, and were fired for it. I feel no sympathy for the news media questioning them about their firing.

Since I know you are an O&A fan now, your rant takes a different angle...and I do admit attacks by the reporters would grab a chuckle or three

I don't watch the news often and haven't for a long time for exactly the same reasons O&A trash the media...I want the news not a damn circus show

hahaa yes I am a productive cog and my war and peace responses are laid out at slow periods...such as now awaiting some excel reports to get sent over my way...I have to leave super early to avoid most of the traffic thus a lot of my early day work is done, well, early

They are not a news show and typically had left the media to their own vices, but it got personal with them...they were the ones being repoted on. They have said it wouldn't have bothered them as much if the stories printed were even HALF correct, but they weren't and they were verbally (and in print) attacked by every outlet. When they DO report news, it is usually to contradict and jest at the media. They happily laughed at stations all over the country doing their "shark attack" scare tactics but O&A reported the rarity of shark attacks on the last 350 years. Did 4,5,7,9,25,38,or 56 talk about the average number of shark attacks in the US is (if I remember it right) about 2 a year since the late 1600s?

I don't hold issue with their firing per se, but the b.s. way it happened. Mrs. Menino was listening to WAAF when the announcement was first aired?
I've met her a couple times...she doesn't seem like the Alice In Chains/Van Halen/Metallica type. They ahd ok from management so if Menino didn't lie and lean on the corporate office they never would have gotten fired. This was an April Fool's gag period.

You better believe I am happy with it. In the last year, other than listening to the Patriots/Red Sox/Celtics I can count how many times I have turned terrestrial radio on for more than an hour on two hands. I am very happy.

hahahaha spread the virus sir. spread the virus. lil jimmy norton. CMON I KNOW THE SHOW. i just wanna see fat virgin boy go down. haha

This post was so on-point, it's not much that I can say that can even attempt to add-on.

"This was an April Fool's gag period. "

Ok, let's do this....you go away on a trip. Let me announce on the radio, while your family is listeing, and I'll report "This just in, so and so was killed in a freak accident while in Florida" and if your family immediately realizes that it's April Fools Day and knows the whole thing is a joke, then you can say that O & A pulled a funny gag. But not a moment before.

You weren't listening that day were you? Did you hear how abstract and weird their story was? No, I suppose not. And Mrs. Menino was listening when they announced it? Mrs. Menino does not listen to WAAF unless she was the oldest metal head in existence. The story O&A told was farcical, they B.S. spin Menino spun was even bigger B.S. All the while they were laughing telling it. If the story was that UNbelievable, they management never should have ok'd it.

> You weren't listening that day were you?

Was I? No. And I'm sure you'll say "See, you don't know what you're talking about" Wrong. I know the facts, and the fact is they said on the air that he was killed. I don't care if his wife, his grandmother, or his dog was the one who was listening...it doesn't matter. The fact remains that they said on the air that they said he was killed and someone heard it. That's it, there's no reason or excuse you can give to defend them. There are some things you can joke about and make up a funny story about. Being killed is NOT one of them.
