Opinions of Cat Country 93.9?

Cat Country has been on the air a few weeks now. Thoughts anyone? I've heard a large variety of music, especially from the 90's. Even though country is not my thing, I wonder if they can even make a dent.

Sounds pretty good but will not make a dent. Because radio people are the only ones that know they are there. No marketing money and they have changed too often to have an identity on that frequency, short of promoting the heck out of it. And even then, that didn't work for New 92.

I may be wrong, but I am willing to bet that even if they do not make a ratings dent that they will go after the the money that can't afford CC, ICCB, Citadel... Smart move for Harold and copmpany... The only thing is that they need to stick with a format and build a brand with it and not just have the format of the month attitude. There is a lot of people out there who are willing to advertise, but just can't afford those higher rates thus making it a great move for the gang at Miller communications... They can attract those dollars from Eastern Richland CO, Kershaw and Fairfield CO which other then WPUB/WCAM was pretty much the only game for that area... What would be good is that if they did the country format equal to Jack... I am sure that would do very good out in the rural areas... JMO CC1

I really have no opinion because over here in Pine Ridge I am hampered by BBN's stick that is set up like some clown set it up because it overrides anything in its path, and would love to be able to hear what KAT 93.9 is offering.

It's not a listenable signal in our area which is good since we do the same country format on WLRE. I have traveled to Columbia on business and listened to Kat country, their music and format is good and workable if done right. They may not show a dent in WCOS's ratings right away or if any not very large but that's not where the true value should sit for them. It is more listenership and money made from commericals that fill a void that other stations do not which in the end is what it takes to keep going anyway. If they can build an identity and hold it then listeners will start to trust them and things will grow for them. 92.1/94.3 had an identity but they never worked it often enough nor did they do things that would make the stations stand out and take notice in a good way; if Kat country could do this then yes they could make it right where their at with their present format but this is often a very hard thing for radio station in general to do.

"If they can build an identity and hold it then listeners will start to trust them and things will grow for them."

Well put Gatekeeper... That is something that if I was to spend my money with Harold I would be nervous about... One day I might have spent money to try and reach a country listenership only to wake up the nexk day and it might be Hip Hop. They need to stick with a branding and run with it... CC1

The Cat 93.9 has a good signal in Sumter County....surprised. We already have Cats at 1290, 92.3 ,and 94.4 in Sumter County so why more Country Cats?

Can't wait til they start streaming. Any country station is better than the 3 we pick up in upstate SC!!

I've been enjoying the country that streams on jradioonline.com myself.

There is always different opinions on things, I didn't care for cat country 107.5 when they were in St George/Charleston due to the fact they didn't care to play any traditional country music if they could help it, we often talked about this with them. When you forget your roots you don't know who you are or where your going.

KAT 197.5 was a much better station when it was BUBBA 107.5 because it did play more traditional sounding music and sounded more like a hometown station and frankly KAT 107.5 never accomplished this especially when they ran John Boy and Billy.

By the way, Cat Country was airing spots all throughout the ACM show on WOLO last night. Good promo! They even have a facebook page. Looks as if Miller is serious about this station.

The Kat Country that was on 107.5 never wanted to have a hometown feel or play traditional country music very much. I often talked to them about that very thing and was told that "That Type Of Format Can't Make It" that they had tried it before in other areas and it always failed. Looks like their type of country format didn't do so well either, Kat Country 93.9 is not the same station as 107.5 it just used the same name, that Kat left town and went on to become something else. I agree that WBUB 107.5 was much more of a hometown station with a broader range of country music, we do the same thing on WLRE still today after 10 years and have a very loyal following.
