OTA College Football Blowout in 2018!!

Triple Headers on Saturdays at least in September on both ABC and Fox. Single games on CBS (SEC) and NBC (Notre Dame). Saturday MLB games air exclusively on FS1 starting Saturday (book-ended by even more College Football).

Kind of explains the slim pickings on ESPN's online platforms so far. Saturday has about a dozen games on ESPN3 and, astonishingly, NONE on ESPN+, which they're actually charging for! The ESPN3 games are available free to cord cutters who get their internet service through a participating telecomm, even if they don't actually subscribe to cable, and ACC games are the same way, since the linear ACC Network has yet to launch (unclear what happens when it does, probably becomes off-limits to cord-cutters like SEC and Longhorn Networks are).

You sure about that? I have Internet service through Cox but do not subscribe to any video services and have not been able to sign up to any ESPN service. It does seem as if you need to be subscribed to some video services to access the ESPN stream(s).

Frontier here. No TV, but have them for Internet and get ESPN3. Previously was with AT&T, again did not subscribe to their UVerse TV service -- yes, my city had TWO cable franchises at the time -- but still got ESPN3 with my internet subscription. AT&T exited Connecticut a couple of years ago and Frontier picked up all their customers. Cox is the other cable provider here, but I don't know if they're in on the deal with ESPN.

spot with most OTA games this Saturday.....North Dakota of all places
3 FOX games
3 ABC games
1 CBS game
2 NBC games.....yup. Notre Dame at night. North Dakota State at 2:30. All NDSU games (sans one conference game tied to the conference network) is shown statewide on NBC. Some weeks pre-empting Notre Dame
1 syndicated game. The ACC Network game is on Forum's "Xtra" channel (the -3 of the ABC stations in the state)

so 10 games OTA. Not bad :) Unless you live in the far western part of the state. Then you only get 6 games. ABC isn't OTA in far western ND

At least CBS isn't totally skipping Labor Day weekend like they did last year, although I believe they still could do more.

What other games does CBS have the rights to that would do better for their affiliates than infomercials? The games shown on CBS Sports Network are bottom-of-the-barrel stuff.

UPDATE: Something has changed recently. Tried signing up once again yesterday and it worked.....to a point. It only gets me ESPN3 which is pretty worthless. I'm thinking the last time I renewed my Internet service (no video) Cox "gave" me a box with HBO on it. I very rarely watch it but perhaps that was the thing that has now allowed me to access ESPN3.

Last time I checked, ESPN3 was available to Cox internet subscribers. I just haven't checked in such a long time because The Tres only typically had events like collegiate underwater basket weaving and the such.

At least during the first week of the US Open, the marquee matches (big stars and US players) are on ESPN3 while everything else is on ESPN+. You'd think it would be the other way around -- pay for the good stuff -- but no. I'm also noticing some decent college football matchups on 3 rather than +. I wonder if the same will be true during basketball season.

Other than that, you're right, ESPN3 has become even more niche than it was before now that ESPN+ is siphoning off MLS, Top Rank Boxing (although rival Golden Boy Boxing is still on the Tres) and PGA golf.

They could have had a second SEC game on Saturday (Early afternoon or prime time) or Sunday afternoon. I know just about every major college game (and a lot of minor ones) will be on somewhere, but they could have planned ahead to get a second game for this weekend. I really don't know why CBS doesn't do more college football on Saturday nights unless they're not allowed to in their current deal. Surely it would do better than repeats and 48 Hours.
