Out of the new crop of syndie stuff this fall, which actually looks promising?

What would actually stick around for awhile, doesn't look like a whole bunch is there to choose from. I am interested in how Deal or No Deal and Trival Pursuit will fare......

Not sure if The Doctors has a Harpo connection--she has Dr. Oz in the works, so it doesn't seem like it would fit. I think it's from Sony distribution, which should give it a big leg up.

Deal or No Deal will probably do well enough, and though I hope to be wrong, I wager Trivial Pursuit will closely follow the Crosswords/Temptation path to obscurity.

I gotta go with you on that one - I somehow suspect that Trivial Pursuit will be a "one-seasoner"...

This isn't really a top year for syndication. "Deal or No Deal" may end up flopping like another NBC game show that was launched into strip syndication six years ago, "The Weakest Link." I'm thinking "Deal" may do a little better than "Link" did in syndication since they are keeping the original host for the daily version.

"The Doctors" will not generate as much interest as "Dr. Phil" did when it was the buzz in syndication. I'm thinking that it ratings are marginal out the gate, many of the stations carrying it may (or may not) replace it with "Dr. Oz" in '09.

"Bonnie Hunt" won't be as successful as Ellen Degeneres has been in daytime talk, and I think it may be a one-and-done show, just like Wayne Brady and Howie Mandel were.

In new court entries, Judge Karen will initially have better ratings than "Family Court with Judge Penny," but I doubt either will last more than one season.

The show I'm most interested in seeing when it comes to performance will be the first-run fantasy drama "Legend of the Seeker." If this takes off and The CW's ratings tank any further this season, I expect many stations returning to first-run syndicated hours to fill prime time.

what is the The Doctor's . Long time ago NBC had a soap titled the Doctor's. what other syndicated shows are out there this season.

The Doctors is yet another daytime talker, with the twist being a health focus since the hosts are physicians. At least that’s the theory—whether it devolves into the Dr. Phil style dysfunction-of-the-day stuff.

Deal or No Deal in syndication is interesting. Indeed, Weakest Link didn’t do that well, but to be fair in comparisons, Weakest Link wasn’t as big a success in its network run as Deal has been. (Personally, I liked the 30-minute syndicated Link better than the drawn-out hour long version, especially the celebrity version.) Could a faster paced version of Deal—one that doesn’t play out like a modern version of Queen for a Day—work? It might, just based on name recognition. I give it better odds for a second season than Trivial Pursuit, but even then, I maintain the show is not a decades-long franchise in the way Jeopardy/Wheel have been….heck, even Family Feud’s current version has hung on nearly a decade. But Deal? Maybe a few years before the whole complete luck premise wears out.

I'd be shocked if Bonnie Hunt's new show isn't just The Megan Mullaly Show: Redux.

I saw a promo on WPSG here in Philly for Punk'd, coming in september.

Browsing Debmar-Mercury's site, they also have listed Deadliest Catch, American Chopper, and Tom Green's House Tonight.

Agree on Bonnie Hunt - Megan #2....but I DO think that Tom Green's House Tonight has a shot - he has a track record and a name among the MTV/yuppie crowd - if he can translate his brand of humor on a more mass level, he might actually last a season or two....

"Tom Green's House Tonight" had a test run this past January on a handful of stations in different sized markets. The test run only lasted a month, so I don't think it will see the light of day. On the other hand, Debmar-Mercury is having some success with its test run of "Wendy Williams," even if the show has been called a trainwreck.

The trend this year is not off-network syndication, but off-cable (see "Punk'd," "Cribs," and "Pimp My Ride" for good examples). Two other shows that are entering off-cable syndication as weeklies are Discovery's "The FBI Files" and "The New Detectives" (with the latter being shopped as a strip in '09 - a show I can't think as being a good candidate for strip syndication, but "Your New House" wasn't either).

I think Trivial Pursuit could last a few seasons based on viewers getting to send in viewer questions, faster paced than Crosswords and higher dollar amounts.

It is the new working title for Wizard's First Rule.

As for certain affiliate stations returning to first-run syndicated programming: one can only hope.

I have my doubts Green's show would see the light of day either. But OTOH one never knows thanks to his style of humor. Either one loves him or hates him.
Back in the late 90's there was a radio station in West Virginia who had a weekender who did a Tom Green style show. Such as calling up people on the air whose loved ones' obit appeared in the paper. Back in those pre-Fred Phelps days, the local paper would actually published how the person died. If someone died from lung cancer he would play an old cigarette commerical or if they had AIDS he was call up the family and say he was one of that person's "old tricks" and when could they could get together again. I myself felt all of this was in poor taste but the audience it seemed loved it. When he left that radio station, the ratings never did recover.

This year's one-seasoners:

The Doctors - I watched this show and I felt that the host was too young and clueless and it had an infomercial feel about it even if they weren't trying to sell you something

Family Court with Judge penny - Good concept, bad judge

Judge Karen - Not tough enough

Trivial Pursuit: America Plays - although it is unfortunate, I cannot see this show lasting veyr long especially with its airtimes and clearances.

Inside the Box/Style by Jury - this Daytime Plus thing is ridiculous. The shows are awful ad it is hard to believe that they air on a station like WNBC in New York.

Keepers:

The Bonnie Hunt Show - Yes, you may be surprised that I am saying this, but I feel like the more I see her show the more I like it. I feel like the producers hae done a good job tightening up many aspects of it. We will see once sweeps come around, but I have a feeling the Bonnie will get renewed.

Re: Out of the new crop of syndie stuff this fall, which actually looks promisin

Bonnie = Megan version 2.0

Judge Karen - She's all right. I wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley. :p It's interesting how the show is airing on both local stations and on cable on BET.

Family Court - Not my cup a tea. May last a year and a half.

Deal or No Deal - My opinion is - if you don't like the primetime version you're not gonna like the daytime version.

Trival Pursuit - I'll give it half a season.

Keepers:
The Doctors Nice show, nice doctors, lasting several seasons, baby!
Deal Or No Deal An all right show. I'll give it 1-3 seasons.
Trivial Pursuit Since it is better than Merv Griffin's Crosswords, and it has better money, and viewer questions, I'll give it more seasons than Merv's.
Non-Keepers:
Family Court and Judge Karen No, no, no! Enough with court shows! Judge Mathis, Judge Alex and the People's Court would be the three I would pick, but for the others, no, siree.
Bonnie Hunt: This will be like Carolne Rhea. A half a season!
