Over-played songs you hear on the radio -- You know the ones.....

We have a thread already on your favorite songs that you never hear played on the radio anymore ..... http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,32839.0.html

But I wanted the satisfaction of a thread where we can post the songs that we feel are overplayed by Rock stations today....

If a song can be under-played.... then by golly it can be over-played !!!

I'll start with what I think is the Number one over-played song on rock radio, a song that is given way too much credit, and is another perfect example of the "industry" influencing in a bad way the masses, and I mean the "masses".....

Jimi Hendrix -- "Purple Haze"

I'll start off with....

Back In Black - AC/DC
Hells Bells - AC/DC
You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC - when Kiss 108 plays this one constantly as if it was a pop hit - and it WASN'T (outside of rock anyway) - then there's a problem - when the hell did this one cross over outside of rock anyway? Not the 1980s anyway!
For Those About To Rock - AC/DC
Highway To Hell - AC/DC
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
the usual Led Zep suspects
the usual Who suspects
the usual Stones suspects
late 1960s AOR Beatles (Sgt Pepper et al)

Lately, the rock station here has been playing Aerosmith's "Train Kept A Rollin'", like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.....

Man.... that song was old back when they over-played it in the 70's, along with Nigent's "Stranglehold", and Rush's "Working Man".

And the radio personalities pretend to act like like they're doing us a real service !!!

I suppose there are alcoholics shooting pool in bars all over the Metroplex that really appreciate those DJs......

But..... for the rest of us......

There --is-- no station --- for the rest of us....

If you're no part of some "mindless" demographic.... then you're nuthin' to Big Time Raydeo!!

Lets just say....I can't listen to anymore:
Boston, Steve Miller, The Cars, Journey, REO Speedwagon, ZZ Top, Bad Company, Foreigner, Bob Seger, Lynyrd Skynyrd...much of Led Zep, Allman Bros, The Police, Supertramp, U2, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd.
Some of these bands I never liked anyway, but my reaction time to the scan button has just become faster.
For some others, there is still an occassional song that is bearable, but I have to be in the right mood.
But if I do hear another song by Boston, and I'm in my car, the general reaction is to drive into an embankment.

To some of us the Boston songs are a gentle reminder of our friend Brad Delp.

If you worked in the Boston market, or followed his side band "Beatlejuice" you'd understand.

If you have not heard the Brad Delp/ Barry Goudreau song " Rockin' Away" try to find a copy of it. It's available on I Tunes for short money

RIP Bradley truly the nicest guy ever to play Rock n Roll

I live north of Boston, have seen Beatlejuice many times, and is not a knock at him personally....I just can't bear to listen to another Boston song for the rest of my life.....they are so over played, I can relive the 1st two albums in my sleep, note for note....I know when to flip the record in my brain....enough is enough.
I can't get in my car and drive from Peabody to Haverhill without hearing a song by them...Don't Look Back on the way home today.

I think I can - the song was on the soundtrack of the 1987 movie "Maximum Overdrive" (soundtrack entirely by AC/DC btw). It got some airplay on some "pop" stations around the time the film was released; I think it even charted - kinda experiencing the same second wind "Bohemian Rhapsody" did when "Wayne's World" was released...

As far as overplayed songs, I've got two words for you... "Hot Blooded". (cue Les Nessman getting ready for his big date)

I have a few , Layla, Fly like an eagle,Hotel California,Life been good, Start Me Up, WE wll Rock you/We are the Champions, and Sweet Home Alabama.

KJFX 95.7 in Fresno plays the previos song mendtion to death there play list is so tight I think they only have about 300 songs in there play list, but now theres a new kid in town KKBZ 105.1 the blaze .Went on the air 2 weeks ago, they play a much more music ,more songs from the airtist the fox plays plus 80's a lot more hard rock @metal.

I hate to break it to you, but it's a lot more than "clueless drunken frat boys" that like these songs. Whether you think they're "%$$#@## stupid" or not is more a reflection on you than them.
Why is it necessary to put down people who like songs you're sick of? I'm not sure being a Devo fan is something I'd want to brag about either.

Here's another way of looking at it....you meet someone you find attractive in a bar...as you get to know them you find out their favorite TV show is Dancing With the Stars, they love to read romance novels, and and Coldplay is their favorite band...an impression is going around in my head...I'm beginning to feel that this person is kind of shallow....you are stereotyping this person...it's human nature...the same can be said for peoples taste in anything....there is an impression you get, maybe not "clueless drunken frat boys", but you get the point.

this sounds like whtq here in orlando. overplaying zeplan, stones, aerosmith, acdc, steve miller... all that wonderful classic rock that was probably worn out on people in the 70s and 80s and is still worn out today for new generations. don't get me wrong, i like all these bands but not the radio hits that overplayed. the beatles have excelent stuff but you won't hear it on radio. just like all the other classic rock stuff. I never liked boston much. sounds all the same in my oppinion.

oh. i forgot to mention that we also have 989 wmmo and sunny 1059 here to remind us of some overplayed stuff. both stations are good at times but not when "hot blooded" or "fly liek an eagle" is on. i guess this is how classic hits goes. it's the same everywheer i have been. well that's radio for you.

Back in the day..... "FM" radio was THE alternative to AM "POP" Hits Radio.....

Boy, how things have changed ! ! !

ALL rock Pop radio has migrated to FM now (except maybe Disnay....), anyways, all pop rock radio is on FM, and the non-hit stations don't pull in as much advertising dollars, so although you could have a very loyal audience for something other than Hot- Blodded and Fly Like An Eadle fans, greed, does not allow any rooms other than 'the most money, period."

There is NO cultural force in radio these days.

Once, ther was, back inthe early days of FM.

Whatever 'bad' things they will say about early FM playlists.....

The overplayed $@#& on CLassic Rock radio IS WORSE !

That's my opinion, and I'm stickin' to it !!

AOR radio ,where did it go , the nearest one is SF 104.5 the fog (KFOG) world class rock ,that actully plays more than the main hits ,I'ts 145 miles away , only get it driving up the foot hills 20 miles away ,any how the new station I mentioned 105.1 the blaze KKBZ ,is now in that REPEAT MODE ,AC/ DC every 2 Hours ,yes the same Highway to Hell@ You shook me all night long along ,of coarse the 3 CSI theme songs. I like the Who but it would be nice to here more than 5 songs.

I can't listen to Classic Rock, haven't been able to in years. These are the worst & or most overplayed titles.

Hotel California-Eagles
More Than A Feeling-Boston
Stairway to Heaven-Led Zep
Rock & Roll Never Forgets-Bob Seger
Shard Dressed Man-ZZ Top
Back In Black-Ac/DC
Crazy on You-Heart
Bloody Well Right-Supertramp

The whole presentation: the whiskey voiced over-the-top imaging voice, the burned out party
jocks, the typical promotions wet tee shirt night and buckets of beer and buffalo wings night
at Spankys with the Morning Flakes from Rock 102.7 The Eagle. It's a two-fer Tuesday-rock-
tober means more deep cuts on the Octopus 95.1. It's beyond lowest common denominator.
I used to program a very successful Classic Rocker, I'd watch the winners come in to pick
up prizes. Frigging mostly earth-dog types.
