Not really.

You see, IBOC (HD Radio) is hard to come by for even the best financed LPFM stations. Secondly, you NEED to be analog to be heard by most people and third, HD Radio is a proprietary system, with $$$ fees and not everyone can get one. Finally, there are no high towers for Part 15 FM.

Second, can you clarify what you meant by high speed internet? Are you trying to rebroadcast something off the web? Or an HD2 channel to supplement your main channel? You don't need a transmitter to broadcast over the internet

I think by "can a part 15C FM operate 24/7 in high definition", he really means he wants to simulcast his LPFM signal over an ancillary audio channel of a 1080 or 720 ATSC stream in his area, not the Ibiquity system.

Isn't that right, Ramonespinosa?

I'm definitely sure that I'm not sure of the question.

Very strange question. I've never heard of a Part 15 HD station and the physics alone would rule it out. HD runs at 1/10th the wattage of the main analog signal and probably will for a long time yet to come. It is HOPELESSLY unavailable for Part 15.

He'd have better luck running an internet radio setup if multiple channels is what he's looking for. But he needs to walk before he runs. Start out with one station and carefully develop it. Once he gets that up and running and building an audience over a year or two, then he can move on to a second channel. But all the while, he must ALWAYS pay close attention to that first channel. A second channel is useless if the first one can't get off the ground.

Internet radio is becoming more and more accessible by mobile units and in a few years could be as easily picked up as terrestrial radio (if not more so) at the rate things are developing. If he gets in on the ground floor now, studies his format and genre (as well as his competitors) well and finds his audience niche in it and most of all PROMOTES it with EVERYTHING he's got, he could do very well in a few years - if he has the steady finances and patience. And that's a real problem - many internet stations just come and go. Start up stations of ANY kind have a LOT to prove. If he's ready to get serious about it and in it for the long haul, he'll be rewarded handsomely
