Whoever reported this has just received FIVE EXTRA LIVES and a 1-UP! ;D
 
And here I simply thought NBC was trying to save a few bucks and bought the backdrop from Bath, Bed & Beyond's bathroom accessory catalog.
 
Hoax? I'll still never look at that Background without thinking of Mario Brothers ever again. It is very very similar even if it's not exact.
 
On Friday's Tonight Show, Conan mention the news article and website. Then they actually had the Mario Brothers graphics playing in the background! That was my favorite joke of the week. :D
