Passing of Weaver Morrow- The Last Real Man In Texas

To Everyone,

This morning at 5:45 Weaver Morrow (my father) passed away. He had been diagnosed with throat cancer in February and fell last week. When he was taken to the ER tests found that it was in his throat, esophagus, liver, and prostate. He was going to be sent home last night so he could spend his final weeks at home. Sadly there a snafu made by hospice (don't get me started on that story) and he wasn't going to be moved until this morning. Sadly I got a call this morning that he had passed at the hospital.

At this time there are no plans for a service (you guys know he tried to be low key) and we are asking for donations be made in his honor to the SPCA of Houston. I will update this thread when I have more info but if you have any questions or messages for our family please send me an e-mail.

I'm so sorry. I worked with you father at Sunny. He was a great man and he always put a smile on my face. I remember when my father passed away he sent me the kindest handwritten note. He will be greatly missed.

I had the brief pleasure of working with Weaver at KRBE some years back. He and Eddie Biles always had some kind of banter going back and forth; and it kept everyone in stitches. He was truly one of Houston's radio legends; and will be fondly remembered for years to come, I'm sure. Godspeed Weaver.
 
Back in the 70s, the morning drive to work was so mellow with Weaver doing mornings on KAUM...he gave real meaning to the term "laid back." His conversational style was like talking to your neighbor across the fence. My sincerest sympathy to Weaver's family and friends in the Houston broadcast community.
 
I grew up listening to Weaver in the Mornings on 104 KRBE. To this very date, 104 is still pretty much like a Heritage Top 40 Music station, while others come and go. My Condolenses goes out to your dad, Sam. In this moment of difficulties. Your dad was a true Houston radio legend.
 
Weaver was a long experienced morning man at KRBE when I came along as the newbie newsman, yet he treated me like an equal and we stayed friends for life. That's a tribute to Weaver Morrow; he didn't exclude me from his circle just because I was inexperienced. How long did we stay friends? Almost 100 years. As he would say, "Aw, that's corny...no that's satire!"

I will be honest I don't know if the SPCA takes Paypal, in this day and age you would think so.

I do want to thank everyone for the support we have gotten. The tribute that Dana and Marc did today was wonderful and they along with a few others will speak with me at the services tomorrow. If anyone can make it tomorrow at 1, at Copperfield Church on HW 6 we would love to see you and will get a handshake from me. And a hug if you're a cute girl.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of your father's passing. I first met him in September, 1970, during the first days of KAUM. He was a Houston Radio Legend from the first moment he cracked the mic and a huge part of the 'overnight' success of KAUM. The ABC execs in NY suggested moving him to afternoons, when more of our audience would likely be awake; they listened regularly and so did the other ABC-FM PDs. Everyone loved him. I remember, if only very hazily, some staff bashes at the Weaver residence on University - still don't know how I found my way home after one of those. I was so disappointed when he first left the market and glad he returned.

Sadly, I seem to have only one aircheck of Weaver in the Morning and it's a very brief one and I don't seem to have any of him on afternoons.

I hope to make the service.

I remember listening to Weaver Morrow on KAUM. Very smooth back in the early 70's. Hope he had a good life.

Weaver Morrow was who kept me going during the early '70s on KAUM. I LIVED with the radio by my side so I could listen to him, the high point of the boring summer breaks in high school. My sister (who is still in Houston) sent me the newspaper article and I was shocked. My heart sank. He is definitely one of those "good ole days" memories for me. I hope he is now living in true peace.
