Pat Kennard to leave 1590 WAKR August 24--She will be missed

It is rare to find a newsperson with Pat's experience (27+ years with WAKR) in radio news anymore.

Here in Columbus, this is especially the case. Perhaps the most trusted newsperson on Columbus radio works for an AC/oldies/smooth jazz combo. And he came to the station from doing weekend sports on a Columbus TV station. The best radio news people in Columbus have moved on...or in the case of Sally Wagner, passed on.

You'd be hard-pressed to find someone with the experience of Pat Kennard or Larry States at a Clear Channel station, with Greg Saber being an exception. But Greg started his career as a part-timer at...you guessed it...WAKR...more than 20 years ago.

When I was an intern at the station, Pat was one of the people who made me feel at home. While I went on a different career path (and now grateful the path went a different direction after seeing the changes in radio news), 1590 WAKR was the type of news operation I wanted to work for.

Best wishes to Pat for a distinguished radio news career. She will be missed.

Note too that WAKR's reporters often "double-dipped" for their former sister station (the late) WAKR/23's news department, including Pat and Greg at one point.

Pat K. will be missed over at WAKR. Very smooth voice behind that mic...I agree, they are hard to come by today, and she presented each daily news with a beautiful voice, and very friendly voice. Just wanted to say best of luck to Pat in whatever you desire in life. Thanks for all those years of doing a great job as a newscaster. You reminded me alot of Dorothy McIntyre or Robin Thomas from the big 1220 WGAR. I will miss hearing "For Akron News Now, I'm Pat Kinard".

She appeared on the Ray Horner morning show last Friday on WAKR, and she mentioned that she would be staying in the Akron area working for the Ohio Department of Transportation. She said it was very easy to leave the news job and she had prayed for a new career move and found the answer with ODOT. Maybe she will be working with the Traffic department doing construction updates or traffic on the air for a number of stations. She wasn't clear on the air what she would be doing there, but that she was glad to still be a part of the Akron community.

Maybe we can all tune in soon to 530 AM or 1610 AM and hear her doing the ODOT Road Construction Updates...and maybe playing Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55!"
