Patches of interstate where u can hear dance stations for 100 miles or more

I know Indiana at night along I-65 is a good place at night, between Indianapolis and Chicago. In Indianapolis you can get WBDG Giant 90.0 all the way up to Lebanon,, then 20 miles further up you can dial in Dance Factory Chicago on 99.9 and pick it up the whole rest of the way to Chicago,, which is 120 miles. It helps that its on a 50kw torch and Northern Indiana is flat. thats a total of 180 miles at night that you can hear dance. That is not even counting the weekends when you have 100.9 Indianapolis, 96.5 Lafayette and B-96 Chicago all doing dance.
 
When Pulse was on, you can hear three dance stations driving the entire length of the NJ Turnpike.

4 if you count the pirate station 92.9 The Beat, 5 if you count 90.3 The Core during my show, and 6 if the stars align and there's tropo that brings in PartyFM.
You used to be able to hear dance music continuously from Old Saybrook, CT to Elkton, MD on I-95.

I was able to hear 94.5 The Vibe from Cedar City, UT all the way to the California/Nevada border.
Giant 90.9 had a much more giant signal than I thought, it was weak east of Indianapolis, but it really hung in there for about 25 miles west of Indianapolis.
 
I used to start to pick up parts of Energy AZ when I was living in Tucson while leaving Tucson to drive to PHX.
 
Surprising you can pick up a 10,000 watt signal (from south mountain) an hour plus distance away on the I-10! I use to pick up Energy off the I-8 coming back from SD as you enter Gila Bend.

I wasn't picking it up on 92.7, but 101.1 would come in surprisingly clear at times.

Even tho 101.1 is the stronger frequency, keep in mind it comes out of Payson (almost 2 hours north of the valley). The elevation up there must be the key factor in the signal traveling such a distance.
 
Me and my bro greg took picks of south mountain and we got lost trying to find the KNRJ tower,, lucky for gps, we found out and I have pics of the tower,, Im glad i did that since the station is no longer dance and no longer uses that tower. I have no idea which tower KNRJ comes from, but I do know the front end overload from 92.3,, Then KKFR killed KNRJ signal up there, even though we were right on it.. and 92.7 was only 10 watts,, 10kw would have been a blessing.

is that all 92.7 sends out? because the big stations are 100,000 watts, so I'm sure KNRJ's repeater is at least one tenth of that right? 10 watts wouldn't make it halfway to Tucson or Gila Bend would it?
 
When I was in Phoenix I couldnt ever get 92.7 to lock in without static, but where I was staying in Scottsdale, I got 101.1 all over that area really strong,, there are parts of phoenix where you cant get either staion though. like if your in the shadow of the mountains. I miss knrj but I liked it when they first strted, and I liked it when Mikeo and later Bea Duran programed it.. the station had a high PD turn over.
 
From what i understand, 101.1 is close to Full Power, but it comes out of Payson....that's why only the east valley can get it. And as far as "what energy era was better", the best book was before all those clowns you speak of. Chris Shebel layed out the format as he duplicated the Chicago station in Az, and after Chi Town flipped, Az played musical chairs with PD's trying to keep the dying buzz alive.

Everyone has their opinions as to which era was best at KNRJ, but I think it's fairly irrelevant at this point. It still was a station that stuck around for 6 1/2 years, which is still longer than most other dance stations have stuck around including Energy in Chicago. I miss it.
 
I miss all the Energys mainly Energy 927&5 cause it was local to me.. But all 3 Energys sounded good.. I wish they were all back.. But at least you have Energy 98 and several other Energy clones online.

was still remarkable to hear it so far off.
I actually lived in El Mirage and it was a pain to pull it in out there.

You have Z88.9 and Super 91.7, and if you get an HD radio, Wired 96.5 HD2.

You can add Garden State Parkway during a tropo opening. It's possible to hear Party 105 reasonably clear all the way from the Driscoll Bridge to Atlantic City if the tropo's good.
 
Nick: let me Re-Phrase that, I Live "NEAR" Philly, But not that NEAR.
Precisely Im 60 miles Northwest and behind a mountain, that pretty much blocks anything from philly.
IM Stuck with only Allentown and Reading Over the air radio :-\

When I hear someone tell me they live near a major city, I'd assume they live within the 50 dBu contour of a station licensed to that city.
 
It depends how much power and the height above average terrain and the topography,, being near a city to me is 45 miles or less, but since a class a wont make it that far, and a class b is fringe at that point, I dont consider radio to be a factor,, think sbout it, you can live inside the city and not be able to hear rimshots or school stations liscensed to the city in your part of town... not nit picking,, just stating my opion Nick...
