Some of these songs listed made the rounds on Energy 98 or in TLR. The good ones are in rotation for us. I found that most of the dance songs for 2008 (most of the songs listed in this thread) are flops. I ran a report for the Energy Top 98 of 2008. We didn't have 98 currents during the year. There's a lot of trash getting passed off as quality dance. I got tired of being spoon-fed a small sample of dance a few years back and discoverd there's a lot of great commercial tunes that don't get the exposure they deserve. I love the commercial dance sound, but c'mon, it's been a lean year.

I can agree with Edger,,, If their was honestly another record like September or david Guetta that I could add and get a good run with it I would add it... I did finally add Kid Cudi-Day and Night, since im seeing other mainstream-rhythmic stations add it, but we will have to see if it makes the top 30,, or even the top 10,, would be nice.

Well I completely disagree with edger. Just b/c the listeners of Energy98.com were'nt into a lot of current Dance doesnt mean that its true for all Dance stations and listeners. There's a reason as to why there's a growing number of Dance stations in Europe. Over there the current Dance stations are constantly improving their signals, or acquiring more signals. There were a significant amount of Dance titles on the British, Swedish and French Pop charts this year. The CHRs in the Middle East are very Dance friendly, and there's a growing number of Dance stations or Dance friendly stations in Latin America.
Hell, Radio FG in Paris has increased the amount of currents on its playlist from 45 to 68(!!!). traditionally it's always been a House station, but in recent years its opened up its playllist to include more crossover Dance/Pop, a few Rhythmicd titles, and a few remixes to big Pop hits, while the mixshows are more diverse (Tiesto and Above & Beyond are now aired weekly on Radio FG). They're also playing a bit more Dance hits from the past few years like "Feels So Good" by sonique in the daytime.

We could play 68 currents too. 45 of them would suck though. More isn't better. We look a what all the smaller countries play and sometimes they are global hit worthy. More is not better. More is just more. I'd like to believe that the music we choose to play is what makes us the #1 independent internet-only dance hits station in the world.

Yeah, but the approach you use works for you and your listeners. Those listeners, by the way, might have different expectations when listening to other Dance stations.
You mentioned smaller countries yet Energy 98 doesnt really represent a big country, but rather the world. It may be a US-based station, but it's a net-based one and as such has a global audience. If you look at Energy 98's myspace page you'll see a lot of comments from listeners abroad. Besides, even the American listeners are spread out all over the country, in both big and small towns.
Lastly, I've noticed C-89.5 Seattle has also increased its number of currents to something like 50 records (although there's a number of recurrent titles in there). For all you know the pendulum might swing towards a bigger playlist on Energy 98 next year while other Dance stations may reduce the number of current slots.
Overall, some of the songs that turned out to be stiffs at Energy 98 were some of the biggest records of the year for other major Dance stations.

We have a great relationship with C89-5. I'm talking about commercial dance radio only. I know there are other dance outlets that have a large listening base. Our sister station Energy 93 is a Euro dance station. We share very few titles and Josh does a great job programming that station. We may be based in the US, but we program to a global audience. A lot of emails we get in are suprised the US has a station that understands dance music as well as we do. We know that songs get added to lists for various reasons. Quality isn't the sole reason.

Kim's track is starting to get a good reaction. Another record thats coming in Lady Gaga's Poker Face. We were early on Just Dance its starting to take off. I think Poker Face is going to do well. Video is up on our site. www.z889.org

I just wanted to say that I listened to your station for the first time last week -- and as a result, I think it was also the first time I heard "Poker Face". I'm absolutely HOOKED on this great song.

Thank you for turning me onto it :)
