Perhaps the beginning of the DG-ation of MOYL....

Heard on Saturday afternoon on the national Music Of Your Life feed ... Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac... Really?

So many stations have dropped this service, I wonder if they are going for a more soft a/c sound like DG ????

Dial Global doesn't play this one. I hope.

No, this is the Timeless-ization of MOYL.

To me, this illustrates the folly of branding. Instead of calling their music some combination of Swing/Big Band/Ballroom etc. they had to put a brand name on it - which became irrelevant as soon as it aged a decade or two.

Looking it another way.....MOYL now applies to late 40's/early 50's and will morph again in the next decade to the late 50's and early 60's and on and on and on.

Can you imagine Grunge becoming MOYL? It'll happen if they don't kill the brand.

How many MOYL Stations are there now? Our local WDEA-1370 Ellsworth Maine had it for 3 months last year, then shifted to DG. I haven't heard a MOYL station anywhere in New England..and I closely monitor the AM bands on my travels.

The last ones I could think of were WPDX - AM in Clarksburg, WV. Now, a simulcast of their classic country FM. And, 1160 in Washington DC which is now Catholic after a sale.

The MOYL station in my area, WAMW 1580, became country earlier this year.

Getting back to the title of the thread, DG-ation implies something has happened to Dial Global. It really hasn't. If you don't happen to hear any of those new songs during the time you are listening, it really doesn't sound different.

Now the format did go through an evolution ten years ago, but ever since Dial Global took over, and especially after Dial Global took over Jones, they've been evolving back in the right direction until recently. And even now, it appears they may regret adding some of those songs.

Huh?

Even ten years ago, MOYL sounded like Dial Global does now. They must have moved back in a big band direction. But that was before they started adding songs a year or so ago. So this statement is outdated.

I do remember before Jones dropped them, the last MOYL station I heard was very much big-band oriented, but not quite THIS much.

I looked at their Facebook page. The only clue anything is happening is "Secret Agent Man". Years ago when my Stardust station apparently hired a chimp (yes, that does mean what you think) I had a dream that Stardust began doing the same thing that the affiliate had to quit doing after a month of complaints. I knew they had changed because in my dream THEY played "Secret Agent Man".
