PETITION: (FOR THOSE!!!!!!)!!! WHO WOULD LIKE A SMOOTH JAZZ/URBAN AC STATION

My idea would be:

a)Clear channel grabs a third FM.

b)They make that Top 40 mainstream and MAKE WXKS urban AC.
WXKS-FM (Kiss) has been succesful for CC for a long time. They'd be foolish to change it's format and send it's listeners looking elsewhere on the dial for it, and they wouldn't.

If they could possibly get another FM in the metro (and I don't think there are any available), then that would be the one for a new format.

99.5 WCRB is still available, as far as I know.

Clear Channel did bid on 102.5 when it was up for grabs back in late 2005, but I think word on the street was that they would have put Rush-anchored FM talk on it. WILD 97.7 was on the air at that time, though.

CC isn't going to be buying anything in the near future, if anything they will continue the sell off, either under the current ownership, or the deal that is now stalled and in the courts. It is rare for a company about to go private to assume debt.

Bain and Lee IF IF IF they do the deal, are going to be so up to the top tower light in debt that they are not going to be in a position to buy. They are currently on the hook for what 39.20 dollars a share in the purchase contract and the current price is 29.70 at closing bell friday. This is a stock that was close to 40 bucks just a year ago and was as low as 25 and change in the not so distant past.

CC will break up the company if the Bain/Lee deal goes south IMHO.

The only real heritage stations left in Boston are WBCN and the "old" Kiss 108.

That was what IMHO made V66 so good the music was a merger of both formats, and I am still surprised John G didn't try to start WVJV Radio

First of all, the only station group which could convincingly flip one of its stations over to an urban one (forget urban AC or smooth jazz) is CBS, and I looked at the revenue list (another thread) and don't see that one happening!

When the jockless classic rock station (despite the TV ad, I don't ever hear Mike playing anything else) is the #2 billing station in Entercrap's cluster, I don't really see changes there either! As for Greater Media, it is so 25-54 oriented that urban isn't even possible (forget urban AC/smooth jazz, which would CUT into an already slightly fading Magic)!

In conclusion, as delusional as some of you may find me, I'm not THAT delusional! Get XM/Sirius (or whatever the merged company is)! Besides, smooth jazz is becoming 55+ even faster than oldies anyway (it's out in the Big Crapple), and where elevator music was around 1990-ish (when the WJIBs of the world either segued over to AC/soft AC or flipped to other formats (oldies, smooth jazz, classic rock, etc.).
