I'll chime in with how good the opening was in South Texas on 6-22. I was driving to Brownsville on business and just out of San Antonio logged KOOL, KUPD, and KSLX out of Phoenix. None of the signals lasted very long and I thought I caught the tail end of the E-Skip.
I listened to Talk Radio for a spell and then flipped back over to FM and 97.9 was playing Country Music and made mention of the Four Corners (Durango, CO). Intrigued, I started a manual tune and heard KRKS, KQMT, KOSI, and KRFX out of the Denver area. This was halfway between Corpus and San Antonio; the 99.5 and 101.1 out of Denver had completely overtaken the San Antonio stations on those frequencies.
I also pulled in a clear ID from 104.7 KABQ Basque Farms, New Mexico as well as KIDX out of Ruidoso (101.5). KZRR (94 Rock) Albuquerque made a brief appearance fairly close to Corpus and even with Oldies 93.9 a local signal. 94 Rock went from "Rainbow In the Dark" by Dio into "Photograph" by Def Leppard.
Once I turned on Highway 77 South it really got interesting. KBPI from Denver was a constant player for well over an hour; south of Kingsville, I received 106.5 from the Salt Lake City area and 103.5 had turned into a battle between a North Platte, Nebraska station, KRFX Denver and "Arrow 103.5 from Salt Lake City ("Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" anyone?)
Within minutes the skip changed and signals came in from the Midwest including 105.5 from the Paducah, KY area and a 98.5 playing Classic Rock and another 98.5 with Sean Hanninty's program. The 98.5 out of the Valley was off the air due to weather in the area. Finally, at 3:00 central 94.7 was playing "Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits and then the ID; WFBQ Indianapolis, followed by "Too Much Time on My Hands" by Styx. My question is has anyone ever had an E-skip change so drastically? I literally heard four time zones in about two hours.
