I'm sorry to announce the passing of Phoenix Underground Radio Pioneer, Ron Wortham.

Once dubbed "Spokesperson for the Phoenix Hippie Community", by the Arizona Republic, Wortham, along with legendary album rock programmer, Bill Compton, was at the forefront of Phoenix album rock radio. He was a founding member of the underground KCAC airstaff.

The complete tribute to Ron can be found at:

What sad news to read. Ron and I conversed about 7 months ago when I found his original application for employment at KOY in the archives at 840 N. Central. He was thrilled that I noticed his name, and equally glad to receive the ephemera from the past. He will be missed.

What a kind gesture, Wattsup, but I'm not surprised :)
Ron had been out of radio for quite a few years, but of course, he was a "radio guy" till the end. I'm sure your thoughtful gesture brought Ron great happiness in his final year.
