Picture of radio station color wheel.

Can someone please post a picture of a few radio station color wheels for educational purposes. Thanks, Mike
Are you referring to what many called a "format clock" which was a clock-face circle with sticky colored dots on it indicating which category of music to play at each point in the hour?

Are we talking about this one from the 1970's when that was a big deal because of commercials and maximizing the audience for ratings. Here is one from WINS-AM New York in 1978 when the clock was set to fit the slogan "You Give Us 22 Minutes, We will Give You the World."wins.color.hour.flyer.full.jpg

I got a lot of old promo 45s with those colour dot stickers on them. Some records has multiple dots on them - one on top of another.

Because the colors corresponded to rotations, and if a record moved from the blue category to the yellow category, it would need a new sticker, and so on.

If you knew what radio station the record came from and could get a copy of their clock from that era, you could actually chart the record's life through its rotations at the station.

I had to jump off the computer quickly on my earlier post, but I meant to put I got those from an uncle who worked in a station eons ago and gave me most of their library. I also have the clocks too.

They were easier to read at a glance than Jacobs' black and white (and occasionally) red hand-printed ones.
You just made me remember when I used to get hand-written memos and notes from Jacobs wen I was briefly working as operations manager for The World Chart show with him and Tom Rounds. Some of his statements needed to be translated into reality...

If I had to pick a favorite day in my career, it was when I wrote something on this very board.

Ron Jacobs e-mailed me a screed that easily would have been three pages if I printed it out.

And later that same day, Bill Drake, e-mailed me to tell me how much he liked it.

It was the first time I'd heard from Drake and I told him Ron had just chewed me out over the very same thing.

Drake's reply:

"Sounds about right."
