Pittsburgh Steelers Radio Network to Air on WTDA 103.9 FM

Being a Steeler fan in football--I am pumped by this news....i remember BNS has Steeler games for a season during the Browns hiatus...cant wait to listen to the game on the radio while watching on tv...

that would have to seem weird to have 3 different sports team broadcasted in one market. i know dayton has both browns and Bengals, Toledo till the browns got canned by CC had the browns and Lions and Youngstown has Browns and Steelers. but for 3 teams is a first that i can recall save for NYC and the NHL

Sadly, I bet the Steeler ratings will be higher on WTDA than the Clowns on the Bru.

In making that prediction did you consider that the Brew's signal is pretty good while WTDA's is a joke? I'd love to see a comparison of Glenn Beck's ratings now on TDA vs. what he was getting on TVN. Probably lost most of his listeners.

WTVN just had a heck of a trend...up almost a full share. I'm sure Joel is now getting as many listeners if not more than Glenn Beck did in the same slot on the station.

I don't understand the rationale of this comment as the Browns have a huge following in Columbus and the Brew's signal is far more superior to WTDA. Is the argument that if the broadcasts were flip-flopped then the Browns would get higher ratings or is the argument that the Browns have less fans in Columbus than Steelers fans?

The sadistic thing about Browns fans is that stadium is sold out every week and they have not been competitive for nearly 20 years. It's one of the most valuable franchises in the NFL as far as marketing value because of the sheer number of loyal fans. (http://espn.go.com/sportsbusiness/s/forbes.html 7th on this list compared to the Steelers 17th). Not to say one team is better than the other, just saying I believe the ratings will be better for the Browns in the Brew than the Steelers on WTDA.

It seems strange that WTDA has not really mentioned that they will be carrying the Steelers games during their only local show "Shark on Sports." It may have something to do with Mark the Shark being an avid Browns fan. The fact that they are carrying the games is marked at the top of their web site, but I have not heard any other marketing with promos during commercial breaks and also nothing in the "Dispatch." You would think they would want to get the word out that they are actually carrying live NFL play-by-play.

There was a brief story in "Broadcast Bits" in the "Dispatch" this Saturday morning. WTDA is also listed in the Sports Section with the Brew as airing the game on Sunday. At least the word is getting out.

Coverage of the game was good - the full two hour pre-game was aired and they seemed to have a reasonable amount of local sponsors. They did appear to cut off the "Steelers Hotline" post game show... they went to Fox Sports Radio directly after the locker room show. The Steelers Radio Network usually has additional coverage (scores, hightlights, commentary and callers) after the locker room. The best part - the Steelers clobbered the Cleve Brownies 34 - 7!

It's fantastic for the NFL fans in C-Bus that you're covered whether you are a Browns, Steelers, or Bengals fan. It blows me away that nobody will sign the Browns in Toledo! I know there are a few stations currently under contract with other squads, but there are 10 other stations in that market. Where's the love?

I think having the: Browns, Bengals & Steelers on radio in one town shows just how much the Columbus market feels about sports, particularly football and NFL football. I'm familar with WTVN as its signal comes in here in Cincinnati very well during the day. How about the Columbus stations that air the Browns and Steelers (AM-? FM-?) and as far as power and being able to be received around central Ohio?

Both 105.7 (Browns) and 103.9 (Steelers) have mediocre signals at best. Get 30-35 miles from either transmitter and they're subject to any and all kinds of interference, especially east of Columbus where the terrain is not flat.
610's signal is especially beneficial to the Bengals radio network, because it's the furthest northeast affiliate. Any Bengals fan beyond Columbus (and in that direction there aren't many) relies on 610 if 700 isn't carrying the games, and maybe even if they are.

Also, 103.9 has better coverage in the far northern areas of Columbus, while 105.7 is much stronger in downtown due to their tower location.
