"Playing the music for listeners that Raleigh-Durham radio forgot"

"TalkRadio 850 WPTF" (WPTK) is no more, its shows either canceled or moved onto "NewsRadio 680 WPTF". Replacing the talk format is a standards-type format called "Just Right Radio". The format is also on FM 104.7 in both Raleigh (W284CP) and Youngsville (W284CD). The two translators are fed from WQDR's HD-2 channel (they simulcast WPTF on their HD-3). The music is pretty broad--similar to the brief return of AM 850 to WKIX "Channel 85" before the talk format or WCHL's "Hall of Fame" music from a decade and a half ago. Some of the music library is also common to classic hits sister station WKIX-FM "Kix 102.9".

Sounds like a positive development. I never though having two stations called WPTF was a good idea anyway.

Assuming my local station got their problems fixed, I have never stopped having good music. I'm out of buttons on my radio but I'd like to try this again. It sounded good before.

Well, they tried that already.

If I lived in the area I would want just regular classic country. I don't think anyone but WPAQ in Mount Airy and maybe a few other stations in the mountains could make bluegrass work.

How much revenue each month is required to keep a station like WFNL (1Kw day, 40w night, one tower) on the air, if the objective is financial break-even? I mean, electricity, engineering oversight, scheduled tower and transmitter maintenance, payments to Today's Comedy for programming, etc.

Actually, now that I've read the article I see the format wasn't a flop, but an experiment.

I have a serious interference problem, but when I arrived at my destination just after I remembered that I could listen (and heard nothing but buzzing on AM anywhere), I could listen just briefly. "Devil or Angel" is one of those songs it seems like only standards stations play these days. I saw no point in wasting gas or the battery so I just went inside.
