I am a huge fan of Indie 103, especially its specialty shows like Jonsey's Jukebox and Rob Zombie's Monday night show. They have been sounding even better lately, in fact, with more changes in the playlist. It's one of the few stations I can leave on for hours and be consistently entertained.
One big problem I have, however, is the loud and abrasive voice of their afternoon "jock," (who seems to record his stuff beforehand) TK. I think that's how he spells his name, or initials. I have heard this fellow talking in the background during Rob Zombie's show, and he seems like a decent guy. His "radio voice," however is intolerable. He is constantly yelling, dripping with phoney hipster cool, and generally trying way too hard. Less is more, Mr. TK: let the music do the talking. And if you decide to talk, just talk. Normally.
The other problem has been noted by many others, and that is the voice-over guy, who sounds like an unholy mixture of Bill, Ted, Jeff Spiccoli, Wayne, Garth, Napoleon Dynamite, and Beck after a couple of bong hits. If this station is all about being "real" and rejecting the corporate and the fake, then why do they have this guy using a totally staged voice? Who is this guy, anyway? Does he have another role at the station, or did they hire him just for this specific purpose.
Anyhow, Indie is our cool radio station. Let's make it better!
