Shouldn't the accent be on the first syllable? It would be if you were pronouncing "W" by itself. And am I reading you correctly that this announcer says, literally, "WULS" (DUHB'-uhl-yoo-yoo-ell-ess), or did you insert an extra "yoo"? If she's saying DUHB'-uhl-yoo-ell-ess, I don't see anything wrong with it. That's the way I'd say it, DUHB'-uhl-yoo-arr-kay-oh Boston and DUHB'-uhl-yoo-tee-eye-see Hartford, too.
I am glad that you noticed this, but I haven't listened to WLS in over a year, and I have no plans to do so again anytime soon. You might be one of the few people that still do since they changed their schedule again, where almost all of their programming expect for Mancow and Big John Howell, the rest of WLS schedule is syndicated talk shows. If it really bothers you, then don't listen when the news comes on, tune back after the news is done. But other then that congrats I am sure you are one of the few listeners that WLS AM now has.

I'm reminded of Coleen Cook who, as far as I know, never overcame her struggle with saying "WUSF." Her elision resulted in something that sounded like "dub·əl·hue·ess·eff."

Seriously, I just think of it as a bothersome 'tick'..and wondered if it was just me.
BTW, syndicated shows don't always mean bad radio.
I DO find John Howell at 5PM pretty listenable! ;-) I thought he was local Chicago.
He is local he is the only other local person on WLS's airwaves, the rest of are syndicated programming on the station whether you like it or not, and they will keep it until later on this year. And I bet you that by the end of this year they will announce their annual schedule change. They have before, and why should i think they won't otherwise?
