Politician subbing for Jim Reith on WSYR?

Just following elections across the state today and I went to listen to WSYR's stream and appearantly an outgoing politician Nick Pirro is filling in for Jim. He's seems to be doing a good job, but I wonder how they chose him to host today's program?
