Portland Radio Group picks up New York Yankees

Say what? Baseball is not just a game in New England.

As for the Sea Dogs and minor league baseball in general, the business model is that the team buys the time for the broadcasts from a station and sells the advertising that is within the games. I would be surprised if it was any different in Portland.

Thank you to "amguy" and everyone else on here that has posted with common sense and a love for the game as opposed to the hatred of a team. As for seltzer and the sox ability to sue someone over this...you do realize that major television networks carried by every cable company in New England...and dish company...broadcast Yankee games, Phillies games, Dodgers games, Rangers...hey, don't tell anyone, but I think they even went so far as to broadcast the world series last year and the sox weren't even in it!!! Can you believe the absolute nerve of those people!?!?!?!?!?! Don't they understand this is sox nation and that stuff isn't legal in this part of the country?!?!??!!? Come on man...love the game...you'll feel better, really you will. Peace ;D

If you want to watch the Dodgers games not available on a national broadcast, you pay for it through the cable or satellite baseball package. It's a whole different story with an over the air broadcast station. If I were a Red Sox radio affiliate, I'd be all over MLB about this. There's just so much advertising dollars to go around and the team that the majority of the people root for in an area should be protected. Also, MLB offers broadcasts of all major league radio broadcasts through satellite radio or the internet. So I am baffled why they would allow a non area team to come into a market. Makes no sense.
