Power 106 sounds more like a CHR/Pop than a Hip Hop station

Where have you been they got rid of the wake up show in 2008. At first it was on The Beat then went to Power 106 in Early 1998.

Dr.Dre & Snoop are both sell outs. Their record don't sound the like it did in the 90's and early 2000's.

I'd argue that "Kush" sounds exactly like a number of songs off of "Dre 2001" and thats why its mostly receiving airplay on the West Coast. The rest of the hip hop world has evolved and Dr Dre now seems late to the party. He's far from a sell out.

Now if Ice Cube was to star in one more family friendly movie...perhaps that could be called selling out...

Well, he is like 7 years too late with this album. It was suppose to come out in 2004

Power 106 has gone down hill since The Goodfellas & Tito left in 2006. They used to keep me laughing in the afternoons. But now Power doesn't sound the same since they left. SMH.

If you love the station so much, you should do a tape trade and add more old Power 106 to your collection. I don't understand why you're so against it. It's a very simple process.

@KPWR Airchecks I demand more airchecks. Ranging from 1993-2003 when the station had street cred. Upload them on YouTube.

I have enough old Power 106 to my collection.KPWRAIRCHECKS,Why dont you upload your collection on youtube so all of us can enjoy the early days of Power 106.I tape traded in the past and got screwed.Ill put more of them on Youtube.

Sorry you've been screwed before. I've traded with many aircheck collectors over the years and always make a point to ensure that the other trader's happy with what they get. I would like to add a few more tapes to my collection...and you have them. You won't get screwed over. Your call. Either way, I'll stop asking.

Funny, I've listened to some hip-hop stations in rural Georgia, and they seem to have more street cred than Power 106 or any other "hip-hop" station in the west coast.

That's because the suits at Emmis believe that Hispanics only listen to "hip-pop" rather than actual hip-hop, R&B, and other forms of urban format music, which is far from the truth. Otherwise KMEL would have been long gone in the SF Bay Area. Anybody can say why Power 106 is way it is with the demographics, which I understand better than most since I work with statistics and demographics daily, but LA could support an urban-leaning rhythmic crossover like WZMX in Hartford.

If you learned not to be selfish, you'd just send me the tapes I politely requested. Any reasonable person would.

If I get requests to post on youtube, I'll be happy to oblige. Boomer knows where to find me if he has aircheck requests.

Besides, you said you have enough old Power 106, so I'll honor that and not post anything at all!

Nah. The folks at Emmis do music research, and I'd suspect they play what their target core wants to hear.

The tastes of East Coast Hispanics are radically different from those of LA or the Southwest. First, the musical heritage in the east includes a large dose of Afro-Antillean material and the root commonality of that music and urban/r&b is of course obvious. The West Coast Hispanic is predominantly of Mexican origin, and the influences, historically, are not even remotely similar.

I'll post 2 airchecks on YouTube in exchange for 2 mailed cassettes.

I'll even do it first...and provide the blanks for you...so you don't feel like you're getting screwed.
