Power 106 sounds more like a CHR/Pop than a Hip Hop station

GAGA and Perry? Hispanic? Like Charro I guess? Cuchi Cuchi

Charo is Hispanic. She's from Spain... which used to be the Roman province of Hispania.

Gaga and Perry are perhaps the most popular pop artists in Latin America today.

What was your question?

I remember when Power 106 played the real music instead that autotune R&B. I used to love listening to Big Boy In The Morning but now the music sucks. The only two good records that Power plays is Aston Martin Music By Rick Ross and Buzzin by Mann. I remember listening to Power 106 when the Sylk-E. Fyne song called Romeo & Juilet first came out in January 1998 and I listened a couple years before that. I'm almost 18 and hate the current hip hop. Too much autotune not enough soul.SMH

The days of Missy and Puff Daddy are over. Power's main listeners are hispanics and they perfer Rythnmic music now. It's a new generation of teens. It's different in other markets but here in LA times have change

Thats like the 8th time you've brought up "Romeo & Juliet" by Sylk.E.Fyne, too. Yes, it was a pretty good song, and a minor hit at some radio stations, but it alone can not be the basis for an entire radio station in America's second largest media market.

Power 106 used play Puff Daddy and Missy Elliot's records over and over again in the late 90's. Did they ever play Faith Evans You Used to Love Me when it came out. You Used to Love Me by Faith is still popular it's still in rotation at KJLH.

No Power hardly focuses on R&B. Only hip hop and rhythnmic tracks. And a few uptempo R&B songs Too slow anyway but a good song. It was a staple on Urban AC radio during the 90's

They did focus on R&B more in the 90's and early 2000's than they are now. I could understand them not playing You Used to Love Me now.

Ha... I love the "I remember when Power played REAL music" posts... and examples are SYLK E. FINE. One hit wonder.

I actually really like where Power is going these days... because "I remember when Power played REAL music and was L.A.'s PARTY station" playing HOUSE / POP / R&B / FREESTYLE / OLD SCHOOL... and not just the same 5 east coast Hip-Hop records over and over... it was that era of Power 106 that was the worst in my book.

Welcome back Power.

Power is just keeping up with the times thats all. Majority of their listeners in LA are latino and asain and rythnmic music is very popular in this city. Yes they need to drop the Hip Hip Lives slogan but thats managements problem. Only thing I dont like about Power is their voice over people. I guess its inhouse production same thing was with Movin 93.9.

Ok another artist! Would they play It's all about Me by Mya & Sisqo from 1998? I have song on my iPhone. How about Queen Pen's Party Ain't A Party. How about a Total record.

Not right now. Maybe during a mixshow but half the time when I listen their always in the mix which is on the weekends. KDAY would probally play it. Try to email A.D. the PD of KDAY and give some music suggestions. Maybe youll get a respond.

How about Queen Pen's Party Ain't A Party. How about a Total record.

KJLH plays those songs on the weekends

Remember when they used the "Blazin Hip Hop & R&B slogan?

No I dont remeber I wasnt living here during that time I only remeber Where Hip Hop Lives. I don't know why stations added Blazin to their slogans

Remember when they refused to play the Tupac record called Hit'em Up because of it's violent content back in 1996 among another songs.

KPWR's playlist pretty much mirrors the Rhythmic chart - did it used to sound like an Urban station?

Yes I did sound like an urban contemporary station when The Beat was dominating the L.A. airwaves. When The Beat was on 92.3 it hit No. 1 in the ratings leaving Power 106 in the dust. In 1997 Power 106 phased out it's house music and flipped to an Urban Contemporary. The reason why Power 106 became a Hip Hop station was because of KKBT's success in the ratings. Both stations sounded the alike so guess you can say it was urban.

Remember when they used the LA's Party Station Positioner. They were even using that when they got ghetto/urban on us.

I just remeber LA's Hottest Music when they first started. Then Where Hip Hop Lives what year did they used that slogan?

I remember the "Where Hip Hop Lives" positioner around the late 90s- probably 1998 and 1999, if memory serves. That was a very common imaging phrase at that time- as I moved to the Midwest at that time and remember other rhythmic and Urban stations adopting the same phrase.
