Power 106 sounds more like a CHR/Pop than a Hip Hop station

@WDB 2003 The whole reggaeton movement on Power 106 stayed touching my last nerve except for NB RIDAZ like I said before I love Lost In Love from 1998. Pitbull is cool on somedays. The Dance Format is BACK Y'all with a touch of Hip Hop & R&B. It's not that I'm not used to the dance format I wasn't even born when they debuted with the dance format I was born in 1993 when they migrated to Hip Hop & R&B so now you see why I'm used to the urban format. Happy 25th Birthday Power 106 LA's Party Station Thanks for 25th Years of Powerful Music. Keep the trends coming.

Yep you were born in the heyday when hip hop started to get more popular. Still is very popular back east and the south and midwest. Just sucks here.

@WDB 2003 So I've been told. I wish I was in my 20's in the 90's. For Example if I was born in 1971 I would be approaching 40. I would've went to parties. I would've been a loyal listener of 92.3 The Beat. Heck in 1995-96 I've would been 24 years old. Lol. ;D 90's and early 2000's would've been a fun time for me. Dang I wish I was older in the 90's. I feel old and I'm 17 and will be 18 in 5 months. I've got an old skool mentality.

Enjoy your youth while you still can. Im 25 but I wish I could go back things were easy and better back in the 90's ;)
You're 25 years old? You're still young but you're right I shouldn't rush growing up.

@WDB 2003 Power 106 needs to change to hits & hip hop already. Where Hip Hop Lives has been played out for years. Great music though. Power 106 is not trying sound like a KIIS-FM clone as much anymore since KIIS went mainstream pop. Happy 25 Anniversery Power 106 LA's Party Station thanks for 25 years of Powerful music. Keep the trends coming.

Anyone got any old Power106 mixes they wanna share?
I was just wondering about that. I would love to hear some Power 106 air checks from the Mid to late 90's. If anyone has some hit me up and post them ASAP. I would love hear the true hip hop & r&b sound of Power 106 from the 90's.

Well, it appears that KPWR continue to perform well in the PPMs and continues to keep adding Dance tracks like Afrojack featuring Eva Simons' "Take Over Control." I don't see them changing their game plan.

Nope not anytime soon is right. Power core listeners are latino and electro pop hip hop or whatever you wanna call it is what they wanna hear. New generation new sound. Flipping to full blown mainstream urban would drop their ratings. KIIS is #1 with ages 18-49 and KPWR is #4 in sales and demo. This new current sound is what pays the bills and keeps those emmis people in business.

You're right. Latinos are Power 106's highest priority.

It's been like that since day one. If KPWR returns to play all those hits you mention from the 90's and 2000's they would be consider out of date. New generation of teens do not wanna hear those songs from that era in regular rotation. Espically in this town since all of those songs have been overplayed and burned out on past radio stations. If you look at other markets some of those songs are making their way to Urban AC radio new generation of adults too. I was listening to my Urban AC station back home in Kansas City KMJK was playing Digital Underground during the midday and Urban AC KMJM in St. Louis was playing Eve. WRKS and WBLS in New York are doing the same thing but mostly on the weekends

@WDB 2003 They do play I Got 5 On It by The Luniz from 1995-1996. That song had mad spins on 92.3 The Beat in the Summer of 1995 as well as Power 106. Still a hit. Around that time E-40 released Sprinkle Me his first hit song from 1995 that song he did with his sister Suga-T.

Yeah its been a staple on Rythnmic radio for years and overplayed here in Los Angeles because its a california classic.
If Power 106 won't play no throwbacks. They should at lease play more back in the day westcoast hits. There is more to 90's westcoast than Gin & Juice. Play some classic DJ Quik You'z Ganxta ring a bell.

Power 106 needs to drop the hip hop and go back to their roots as LAs hottest Dance music. I currently like the way they sound, they are still leaning a bit too urban though, and they need a new postitioneer as LAs hottest music, or Party Station.

Let them play hip hop. I'm too used to the Hip Hop & R&B. We don't have a station focusing on current hip hop & R&B since KDAY's flip to gold hip hop and the loss of The Beat.

You're right KDAY is focusing on Ol' Skool. The majority of the music on KDAY was being played on Power 106 back in the day.

KXOL uses LA's Party Station. LA's Hottest Music fits the demo but with the hip hop in the mix not sure.

I doubt the new generation will even know those songs. Power use to have a old school show during 12 noon and years ago they had a sunday night old school show. I think that was the only time I remeber listening to KPWR back in the day. KKBT use to play this reggae show that turned us away back in 97 right before I moved away. If you have a good radio or if your in the Santa Moncia area or San Gaberial Valley KCAQ and KQIE 104.7 plays alot of throwback jamz during the 12 noon hour.

@WDB2003 Trust me. They will know these back in the day hits if they appericate music like I do. I'm 17 years old and listen to 90's and early 2000's Hip Hop & R&B. Most of the kids I hang out with don't listen to Nicki Minaj, Lil' Wayne or Trey Songz. The only song I like by Lil' Wayne is Way of Life from 2002. The Beat as well as Power 106 used to play it all day everyday his last good song before he became a sell out.SMH. Power 106 will have a winning recipe if throw in a few recurrents and can still play currents. I can see it. Play some more R&B too such as Keyshia Cole's Take Me Away. It's like they focused more on R&B in the late 90's and early 2000's than they do now.
