Power 106 sounds more like a CHR/Pop than a Hip Hop station

They do have a winning recipe thats why they are still on the air. When KKBT flipped and KDAY's poor signal KPWR offically won the hip hop(despite being rythnmic) crown in Los Angeles. The only real threat they had was KXOL during 2006 but has since then died wayyyyyyy down. The only success KXOL did was drive away KKBT latino listeners. Its all about sales and demo and what they are doing now is way better compared years ago. The PD gotta appeal to what their core listeners wanna hear and in the Los Angeles radio market nothing last forever.

Like I said the Hip Hop currents are cool but it wouldn't hurt to play some classic westcoast rap hits and would hurt if they play some more R&B there's more to R&B than T-Pain, The-Dream and Trey Songz

check out the mixshow.com aquanet mixshows every friday with jeff g and dj rawn. the ol skool show is not on power 106 anymore they graduated to the mixshow.com. westcoast wednesdays on the mixshow.com

I have too check it out. Power 106 has not been the same since they got rid of the Ol' Skool lunch hour. I would love hear more R&B though. I could've sworn that Power 106 played more R&B in the 90's and early 2000's when were going against KKBT.

it does suck they change programing since they stream online now it also sucks program directers wipe away the ol skool show on power 106 maybe later on in the future they will bring it back i dont think 93.5 kday going to last forever with ol skool hip hop power 106 is going to have to replace it when kday goes off in los angeles. dj rawn started his own internet station to continue with all the shows power 106 use to have on air. program directers **** up power 106. how long is big boy neighborhood going to be on las vegas wont accept his show on there stations in vegas it the samething every year time for big boy to retire los angeles needs a latino morning show on power 106.

Well I dont see any Big Boy affilates since Citadel dropped him last year. Dial Golbal is his new syndicator. KNRJ in Pheniox carries Big Boy in the afternoon which is werid. Nothing in Los Angeles last forever. As for the PD's they have to answer to a higher demand. Emmis is struggling right now thats why they leased KMVN 93.9 to Radio Groupo in Mexico and changed it to KXOS. What are they getting from that LMA 7 million a year? And now their trying to sell WRXP 101.9 in New York. In other words they are just trying to keep up with the times. Its a new generation.

Ha... I love the "I remember when Power played REAL music" posts... and examples are SYLK E. FINE. One hit wonder.

I actually really like where Power is going these days... because "I remember when Power played REAL music and was L.A.'s PARTY station" playing HOUSE / POP / R&B / FREESTYLE / OLD SCHOOL... and not just the same 5 east coast Hip-Hop records over and over... it was that era of Power 106 that was the worst in my book.

Welcome back Power.
There taking shift back to Hip Hop. The reason why bought up Sylk-E. Fyne is because of Nicki Minaj's crazy behind. Nicki Minaj is not real hip hop, she is a gimmick. Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Sylk-E. Fyne need to show these new cats how hip hop is done.

They are consider Old School and with Foxy Brown legal troubles I doubt we will hear from her for a while Lil Kim no need to rush back into making a new album. I dont think her last album or track did all that well it got airplay on KDAY during their Beat phase and Power. I dont care for Nikki either but its what the new generation wants to hear. Everything she does Lil Kim already did it. She's not even american just like Rihanna.

I remember that Lil' Kim record called download ft T-Pain and Charlie Wilson. Hated that song so much. She hasn't released an album since 2005 I think. Lil Kim looks a hot mess now a days. Khia was a one hit wonder with My Neck My Back from 2002. I didn't really care about Khia I only liked My Neck My Back and that was it. Khia is way too black & ugly. She looked ok in the music video for My Neck My Back but now she looks ugh. Sylk-E. Fyne hasn't had a Top 40 hit since 1998's Romeo & Juilet. Her album entitle Raw Sylk which saw a March 24, 1998 didn't make that much noise. The days of the strong black female rapper are done.

Your in a new generation of music and rap has had its heyday. The money is in producing music why do you think Missy hasnt made a new album yet. She makes more money writing songs for artist. Alot of r&b and pop stars from the 90's write music for today's artist.

Remember Trina? I used to like some of Trina's record such as Told Y'all from 2002, Da baddest chick from 2000 and That song she did with Trick Daddy called Nann from 1998. Power 106 used to play Trina in the early 2000's before Nicki Minaj was even thought of.

power 106 sounds good richard vission is from back in the days he use to mix freestyle and classic house on power i use to record boris and chris L.A CLUB MIXES every weekend i no longer have those tapes. richard vission was of the hook in 1988.

power 106 was way better back in the days pure energy dance now i hope one day they will return to there dance roots hip hop is dead.

Power is very unique to me. The mix of dance and electro pop is new to me and I actually like it. I was listening to a few other hip hop stations on my iheartradio app for my iphone in the car while driving around. Alot of those hip hop stations are waterdown to me mainly because they are owned by clear channel and they are using that premiunm choice crap overnight. 98.3 The Beat in Columbia, V100.7 in Milwaukee and 103 Jamz in Norfolk are boring. WGCI, WWPR and KMEL are top choice saved on my iheart app.

@WDB 2003 I got a chance to listen to Powertools. Loved it. It's been on the air since 1992 a year before I was born. I'm starting to appreciate the house hits. I'm starting to think that should dump the hip hop and focus on house music. Hey they did in early 1996 and still played Hip Hop & R&B. I might stay up late next Saturday and listen to powertools. House music all the BABY.

Sylk-E. Fyne Romeo & Juliet has been getting mad spins on KDAY then she did on 92.3 The Beat in 1998. I wonder if KJLH would play it now because alot of the old school hip hop hits are being added to Urban AC now a days.
