Power 96.1 - Atlanta's New Hit Music Station

Neither 105.7 nor 96.7 has a signal that covers many African-Americans. It's hard to believe they would go that route.

Roddy I have to disagree 100%. The areas around Roswell, Alpharetta, Johns Creek are becoming full of prominent African-Americans, with huge money in the hip hop, and entertainment industry.

Exactly. This is a stunt, and I don't think Mami Chula will be on tinight.

Thanks, that one is forgettable anyway. What a disgrace, affirmative action has gone too far.

Last time I checked, all money was green.

Honestly i don't think even if Wild goes away that rhythmic in Atlanta is dead. Since there are teens and African Americans that like both there probably will be a new station that crosses between Hot 107.9 and Power 96.1 not owned by Clear Channel.

As a former 96 Rock listener who even tuned in the Project to get a head banging rock fix at least 3 times a week: I FEEL OLD!

Rock music has pretty much been pushed to the back of the bus...ostracized and virtually ignored by ever aspect of the American music industry. Mix that with the ever-changing landscape of radio in Atlanta...I'm not really surprised about this change.

I'm more surprised with how the station did not move, instead going off the air 100%. We were all expecting it to move. Instead, one of the longest running rock-based formats in the USA went with quite the whimper.

According to their facebook, WILD will be at GSU tomorrow at 12 noon. So, WILD will live at least into tomorrow.

Who knows: based on it's urban lean these past few hours, the station may not flip at all.

Driving around today, I'm also noticing that the music is slightly pitched up. This is usually a characteristic of a true Rhythmic format rather than CHR, right?

that means nothing at all they can still flip
What station had a remote scheduled for the day after a flip, and had the remote anyway after the flip happened? Was it AGH?

Quite honestly these stations sound exactly alike................

I know one thing, both stations are playing the shit out of Niki Manaj???? Just do not see how 105.7 can continue.???

I love staring at Nicki's hum...face....but seriously, how many times can one hear STARSHIPS before getting the urge to projectile vomit?

FWIW "The Alternative Project" is still on 96.1 HD2, but they dropped the "Project 96-2" moniker, music sounds the same. So if you have an HD radio, there is still SOME rock on 96.1...

Is WiLD promoting 96.1 and telling listeners to go there?

That would seem logical if WiLD was going to flip - I don't see any way the two stations can co-exist, though (this isn't like Boston where their CHR is #1 and they also have a Rhythmic)....WiLD staying around does nothing but hurt Power's chances...

I still think a new format will be on 105.7 a week from now.
