Power 96.1 - Atlanta's New Hit Music Station

carolinaradio said:
Is WiLD promoting 96.1 and telling listeners to go there?

That would seem logical if WiLD was going to flip - I don't see any way the two stations can co-exist, though (this isn't like Boston where their CHR is #1 and they also have a Rhythmic)....WiLD staying around does nothing but hurt Power's chances...

I still think a new format will be on 105.7 a week from now.

I hope you're right. The only think I think they have said, is turn to 96.1 to hear Elvis Duran and Seacrest Tuesday morning at 10???

Another heritage rock station killed to support the bewildering addiction to CHuRban music. Crazy. Disgusting.

I highly doubt, this station will be a "CHurban" It will be a CHR/Top40.

ALL CHR is CHuRban...as urban makes up the majority of CHR now.

G

Uh no, it does not! Most of the stuff played on mainstream CHR would not be played even on the most progressive of urban stations. You really need to educate yourself on modern US urban formatted radio stations, because most urban stations are more conservative than Q100 is with songs with rap verses are on spinning songs of non-core urban music artists. CHR has pretty much moved away from "Urban" music or rap. Most of it is dance/pop and pop. Some alternative acts have even made their way on to CHR.

I know it's only day one, but I listened for about 30 minutes and I wasn't overly impressed. And if the talent is going to be Elvis Duran and Ryan Seacrest, I just don't see this station competing very well against Q100.

Q100 has a better morning show and more local talent. And I think the music mix is better too.

I know they have the same power but I actually think 96.1 sounds better

Listened to WILD earlier about 30 minutes and I heard a ton of throwback urban songs mixed with current Rhythmic hits. "Hits and Hip-Hop" is what someone said they were using. Could this format stay? "Hit's and Hip-Hop" can easily be an Urban format, but idk if Clear Channel with go this route. Playing older Urban hits can target V103, KISS and even MAJIC. Interesting if Clear Channel wants to eat a slice of Urban pie.

Currently listening to POWER 96.1 at work and the music is so upbeat!!!!!!!

Clear Channel is telling advertisers that Wild will be a Rhythmic CHR and co-exist with Power 96-1. From listening today, I'm getting the idea that Wild is trying to do a Rhythmic format for suburban white kids. Personally, I don't think that's a good idea. Both stations are going after basically the same audience.

Interesting. Isn't that essentially what 95.5 Beat started as?

Oh, this is going to hurt WILD.

And, on a side note, unless something happens on 105.3 or 94.9 over the weekend, we go yet ANOTHER weekend without Classic Hits (barring 97.1 the River) in Atlanta.

All on iHeartRadio, too.

I still say its a work. Why start a new Top 40 on one ofd the best signals in town while keeping a variant of it on a weaker spot on the dial. Wouldn't it be better to try and drag as many of those listeners over to the new station while programming another niche say one that fills a young male demo that supposedly had a pretty good following but maybe to near for that big of a stick?

If you were keeping WILD as a Rhythmic I would think you would want to keep Mami Chula there instead of bring her over to power.

I smell a rat.

Well, according to Clear Channel, Mami Chula is staying on Wild. One thing that's interesting is that Wild is promoting Power on the air. From what CC is telling me, and I'm an advertising client, they plan to keep both stations. And the announcement about Rick Vaughn, the new PD, seems to indicate that's the plan. But as said earlier, I don't think that's a good idea and don't think it will work long-term.

One other thing--also said before--Power is never going to beat the Bert Show with Elvis Duran. I have to believe they'll hire a morning show.

I love Power 96.1! This is the type of CHR I've been wanting. So much better than Q100 and it reminds me of Power 99 ... Very upbeat. Now IF only we would get a Classic Hits station like Majic 105.7 in Cleveland I would be happy.

EXACTLY and if we don't have Classic Hits by noon tomorrow I will be spending the weekend listening to Manic 105.7's top 500 countdown.

What an idiotic decision essentially when they are playing the same songs. Not happy with that idea, as you guys know........... ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
