Power 96.1 - Atlanta's New Hit Music Station

Hey, acheron some interesting irony to WZAT/Savannah was that in the early to late 80's Z102 was a damn good CHR! Great local jocks, Spanky's Top 10 at 10 countdown every night and they also adopted the Coppertone-Tan Tone...(which was on WSGF first, I believe). But, yeah Z102 was hot in the 80's!

For those lamenting over Project, there is 98.9 The Bone to replace it. Sorry but that type of music doesn't deserve a full power signal like 96.1. I could care less about Project, but I will miss DAVE and 99x. I'm just excited to see what Power can bring now that it has a wide reaching signal similar to Q100 (I can't stand that station). There was no point flipping Wild to Power on 105.7 (to keep Project 96.1) because the signal sucks especially ITP and south, east and west and it really limited the success of the station.
My guess is, since this is all new, they are going to test out having Power and Wild, and if it doesn't work, Wild will definitely be flipped. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens at some point any way... it's going to take time for Power to build a solid listener base so they might as well keep Wild around until that happens.

ERF Is just one part of FM "power or coverage". Height Above Average Terrain is more important. That is why the NYC class B's 50KW at 492 ft* take a power hit and go to 6700 watts @ 1339 ft.*

There are a couple of grandfathered "B"'s that have better combinations but WPLJ is a typical NYC Class B.
99.7 wins with 1115ft. verses 96.1 @ 984ft. The extra 131 feet does help in most distant areas.
Additional height gets you much more additional real estate since FM is line-of-sight, especially looking downhill. Additional power is subject to the inverse square rule, where 4x the power only gets you 2x the real estate. 3000W on competing "100kWers" makes negligible difference. That is why 97.1 is such a blaster--almost full power but on a full class C stick (http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?call=wsrv&x=0&y=0&sr=Y&s=C ), and in the foothills to boot (note how height above ground level is actually larger than HAAT because of that). More power (wattage) does get you better building penetration and silencing of other signals on the channel (check out how horrible the 250W translators are in this respect, despite outrageously high HAATs from their TV towers), but again, 3000W is negligible when comparing "100kWers".
Makes total sense, regarding the ERP vs HAAT. Terrain def has more of an impact in that way.
I seem to recall that the Fish stick was sold to Mrs. Paul's. Could someone confirm?

Power 96.1 deleted its original Facebook page (PowerATL) and started a new one today (Power961). Twitter is still @PowerATL because a personal yet inactive @Power961 is taken.

It makes it all the way into Anderson County, SC when travelling north up I85. Until it is taken over by CC CHR station Channel 96.1 from Charlotte, which also has a very strong signal. And Q100 makes it that far as well, but 97.1 The River makes it almost into Greenville. But 97.1 did make it into Greenville until a number of years ago when they changed the signal pattern. And they added a sports station on 971. from Spartanburg which blocks it out. So now Atlanta has 2 strong hit music stations to choose from, along with Hot AC on Star 94.1 which also has a pretty strong signal. I usually listen to these stations unless Boortz is on WSB, as 95.5 makes it into southern Anderson also. I know, go figure. Probably not your typical demographic here. But I do like to keep up with today's music, but just not rap. When I get tired of CHR, 94.1 and 97.1 are appealing with a little more variety.
