PPM Jan- V103 leads, B takes a nosedive, AGH up, Kicks>Bull, WNNX ^, WiLD down

So..... if you haven't already read enough, here is the Portable People Meter Rankings for January:

V103- leads with a 9.8 share, Up 1.7 since Nov/Dec.
N/T WSB- returns second place with a 7.8 share.
Kiss- in at third with a 7.1 share.
Star- coming in at 4th with a 5.4 share, up .5 since December
Praise- Radio One's strong link in at 5th with a 5.2 share
Q100- tied with Praise for 5th with a 5.2 share
Hot- in at 7th with a 5.1 share, down .4 from December
Majic- come in 8th place with a 4.7 share.
The Fish- christian music in 9th place in January with a 4.5 share
B- not far behind is semi-hot AC with a 4.4 share
Kicks- beating the Bull with a 3.8 share
The Bull- loses country with a 3.5 share
The River- wins classic hits/rock with a 3.2 share
NPR- ties the river with a 3.2 share
Project- has that darn 3.8 share they've had for 4 months
WiLD- looks like the lowercase "i" isn't doing any good, 2.8 share
The Fan- beats 'QXI by a longshot- 2.3 share
AGH- the call sign from a decade ago pulls in a 2.2 share, up by .4 from a month ago.
Da Pattern- wins la cinco spanish, and does translate to the pattern, up from 1.9 for 6 months to a 2.0
Dave- famous for its past and good signal and infamous for BAD RATINGS, David gets a 1.8 share
WGST- the station with the best talkers and the worst ratings, WGST is up a half share to 1.5
WNNX- the insanely changing, incredibly laughable, and just really bad Rock 100.5 is UP 2 shares to 1.3
Da Zone- The innocent little sports station that no one can hear comes in at up .4 to a 1.2 share
JOY- Rounding us out once again is THE JOY FM that gets a meek little 1.0 share...... NO JOY THERE.

In Cumulus translator news..... Journey gets a .7 share/99x@wherever gets a .5 share.

That's it.

Not an AC or Hot AC person BUT I think "B" needs to go back AC and leave the Hot AC to Star. They saw a pretty big drop. In fact, just glancing at the numbers, looks like WSB FM took the biggest dump.

I argue nothing be done with WNNX. Let them leave the format alone for just 6 months. Leave it classic rock for 6 month and then after that, if not luck, move 99x to it's frequency.

I can't say who but I was told that most of Project 961 listeners actually come from the more rural parts of metro Atlanta (especially out towards Newnan and Carrollton). 96.1 = Redneck Rock Station!

Acheron, I was just thinking the same thing....B needs to start back up with the clear channel "lite" theory. 70s, 80s, 90s, and somm, just some currents mixed in. It might turn out that I was right after all, leave the hot AC to star 94.

Well I listened to star over the weekend and while I'm not a fan of the music (personal bias of rock), the station sounds really good and professional. Cumulus and Clear Channel stations just all sound the same (announcers/liners).

One of the best Alternative Rock stations in the nation is a Lincoln Financial Group Station. Lincoln stays out of the affairs of local jurisdictions and allows the PD of each individual station have more power with what plays and the format of the station.

Look who their parent company is..... LFM. The people who brought us star 94 and WBT in Charlotte. You can expect professionalism there.

Hmph! I see the V-103 detractors are silent. CBS obviously knows what they are doing with that one station to jump nearly 2-shares in a month. Personally, I'm enjoying the variety.

B-98 seems to be off track as they can't get back to what they had before Christmas. I think 106
going back to what was working for them (more 80's) is pulling away from B.....just as it did once
B4.

Am I the only one who doesn't think Star94 sounds that great (professional)?? The sweepers are super cheesy and way too long, the playlist could use a little more variety and how many more big 90's weekends do we need to have??? The DJ's on the weekend sound better than the DJ's during the week! I can't believe this station is so popular here... it's not anywhere near the best Hot AC stations around the country. I doubt they will change anything unfortunately given they are 4th.

Clear Channel needs to turn WiLD into "Atlanta's Hit Music Station" and make it more of rhythmic leaning CHR (like Kiss FM in LA or Z100 in NY)... and move it to 96.1... that signal is too good to waste on a redneck rock station that just does OK. Q100 JUST added International Love by Pitbull (a few months a little late)... we need a real CHR station in this market and Q100 can keep it's Hot AC leaning format. 96.1 The Beat in Charlotte used to be a rhythmic station (Charlotte's Party Station) and was then flipped to Channel 96.1 (rhythmic leaning CHR).

Sorry guys, but Q100 is one of the worst CHR stations in the country... I don't mind the Hot AC approach but ditch the 10 plus year old Hot AC songs which they have been playing for over a year now (cough Vertical Horizon, cough Drops of Jupiter, cough Coolio, etc) and instead play more current Hot AC music... if they want to compete with Star, keep the Hot AC stuff current!!!

Atlanta is big enough to have 2 CHR stations (one rhythmic leaning and the other Hot AC leaning).... would like to see this happen but I'm not holding my breath! Thank GOD for iheartradio so I don't need to listen to the horrible stations here.

Yeah, the only stations "beating" Star are Urban/News, so Star is basically at the top of its possible audience (i. e. white music listeners - sorry to generalize :-\ )

I'm really sick of hearing the same 10-20 recurrents over and over for years, but I guess people still like them, and familiarity beats variety here

Channel 96.1 isn't even rhythmic leaning CHR anymore - they're very well balanced, IMO...

I think it's a pretty solid CHR station for a mid-sized market... Atlanta could really use something like it.

Agree. They have really improved in the past few months. If CC did CHR on a better signal in Atlanta and mirrored it after a station like Channel, I think it would do well.
