PPM Summary: Movin 99.7 San Francisco Breaks The 3 Share, Cumes Over A Million

http://www.radio-info.com/site/markets/grid/san-francisco

San Francisco has long been one of the toughest markets for a CHR/Pop to post high ratings. In another sign of how healthy CHR/Pop is right now, Movin 99.7 zooms 2.7 to a 3.1 share in the bay area. That's good enough for a tie in 10th place with Wild 94.9. Cume-wise the station has nearly 1.1 million listeners, good for 6th overall, and ahead of stations like 106.1 KMEL and Alice 97.3.
Movin is also Top 10 in cume in the San Jose market with over 230,000, but share-wise remains flat at a 2.0 share.

In other markets, 106.1 Kiss FM dominates the Dallas ratings as it moves back up nearly a full share to a 6.5, good for first place, and with over 1.6 million listeners. New rival I-93.3 posted a 0.7 ratings share with over 400,000 listeners.

In Houston, the battle between heritage 104 KRBE and Hot 95.7 heats again as the stations are nearly tied. KRBE moved back down to a 4.5 share, with over 1.45 million listeners. Hot 95.7 posted its highest cume yet with nearly 1.3 million, and a 4.3 ratings share.

Chicago's top 2 cuming stations continue to be the city's CHRs. 103.5 Kiss FM, with a 3.7 share, posted its highest cume figures with over 2.1 million, while B-96 with its 3.1 share is once again closing in on 2 million listeners.

In L.A. 102.7 KIIS-FM is back on top, up nicely 4.8-5.2, and with a cume of nearly 3.9 million. In nearby Riverside, KIIS-FM cumes over half a million, and is ahead of local Rhythmic 99.1 KGGI in share (5.1 KIIS vs. 4.9 for KGGI). Rival 97.1 Amp Radio, which still doesnt have a morning show, is down a tenth of a share in L.A. to a 3.7, but cume-wise is up to over 2.8 million. It's also up to 1.5-1.8 in Riverside with nearly 280,000 listeners.

Z-100 New York moves up 4.4-4.6 in share, and back in cume as well with over 4.6 million listeners. In Long Island Z-100 managed to surpass local CHR 106.1 BLI in share - BLI fell 5.7-5.2 while Z stayed with a 5.3. They are the top two cuming stations in Long Island with BLI cuming over three quarters of a million, and Z-100 nealry matching it with about 730,000 listeners.
92.3 Now also managed to move up 2.3-2.5 in New York, and now cumes nearly 2.9 million. It's still not much of a player in Long Island with a 1.5 share though cume-wise it moved back to about 350,000 listeners.
Over in northern Jersey (Middlesex-Somerset) the race is much closer between Z-100 and 92.3 Now. WXRK is actually beating Z in share with a 4.4, but not by much - Z-100 has a 4.3 share. Z is also still ahead in cume with over 400,00 versus about 333,000 for Now.

Lastly, we arrive in Philly. A market where contemporary-based formats seem to be struglling, especially the Urban. Q-102 is ranked just below the Top 10 in share with a 3.4 though it should be noted that the 10th highest ranked station, Sports WIP, has over a 4 share. So how can we spin this in a positive way? Easy - Q-102 is up a tenth of a share, it ranks ahead of Rhythmic Wired 96.5 both in share and cume, and is ranked 4th overall in cume with 1.42 million. Let's also point out that the third highest cuming station in Philadelphia, New outlet KYW, cumes 1.44 million so Q is pretty much still a Top 3 cume player.

Here's a summary for the markets released today.
Z-107.7 St. Louis recorded its highest ratings ever, up from a 5.5 to a 6.5 in share good for third overall. Even better, Z is number 2 in cume with nearly 850,000 listeners. Mornings are anchored by Tampa's 93.3 FLZ longtime morning man MJ Kelly.
Over in Tampa Bay, 93.3 FLZ is back in the market's Top 5 as it moves up 5.0-5.5 in share. Cume-wise FLZ is up to second place with over 680,000 listeners. It should be noted that the Top 4 cuming stations are all fairly close with AC Magic 94.9 cuming nearly 700,00, Retro 80s and 90s 101.5 The Point with 660,000, and Easy Listening WDUV (which fominates in shares) with about 650,000.

Many of 93.3 FLZ's alumni now work at Hot 99.5 Washington, which recorded its best ratings share ever as it was up 5.6-6.4, good for third. Hot is also number 3 in cume with close to 1.1 million listeners.
Another FLZ connection is Channel 93-3 San Diego - when KHTS first launched back in 97 it actually simulcasted WFLZ to San Diego for a few months. Anyways, fast forward to 2009, Channel 93-3 continues to lead the market in cume with almost 750,000 listeners, but runner up Hot A/C Star 94.1 is now right behind Channel with only 600 fewer listeners. Star is number one in share while KHTS is up a tenth of a share to a 5.4, good for 4th overall.

Also up a tenth of a share is the Twin Cities super heritage CHR, 101.3 KDWB with a 6.7 share. It's cuming about 860,00 listeners, and closing in on Classic Rocker 92 KQRS (870,000 listeners). The top cuming station in Minneapolis, just like in San Diego, is a Hot A/C - KS 95, and they're cuming nearly a million listeners. Very impressive numbers for a Minneapolis station.

In Detroit Channel 95-5 is still tops in cume with about 1.25 million listeners. It's also up 5.1-5.7 in share, good for 4th. New rival 98.7 Amp Radio debuts pretty strongly with a 2.8 share, and about 726,000 listeners.

Kiss 108 Boston once again delivered super strong ratings - up 8.2 to an 8.6, good for first place. In fact, it's got a 2 share lead over AC Magic 106.7, and nearly a 3 share lead over third place News Talker WBZ. Kiss 108 is also number one in cume with nearly 1.4 million listeners.

In sunny Miami heritage CHR Y-100 is back up in cume to 940,000 listeners, good for fifth, and not far behind Urban 99 Jamz (about 950,00 listeners). In terms of share, Y was down a bit to a 5.0, but is still inside the market's Top 10, and more importantly ahead of heritage crossover station, Power 96.

In Phoenix, 104.7 Kiss FM gained over 100,000 listeners and is now up to 870,000, and 6th overall in cume. The 5th and 4th and even 3rd highest cuming stations in the market don't have much of a leg up over KZZP though - Oldies 94.5 Kool FM has 878,000, A/C 99.9 KEZ has 874,000, and Variety Hits 98.7 The Peak has about 871,000 listeners (only 900 more listeners than Kiss). In terms of share, KZZP was down 3.7-3.5, which means its now tied with Rhythmic CHR 101.5 Jamz (which is number 2 in cume with over 900,000).

Lastly, we have Atlanta. Q-100 is all the way down at number 14 in terms of share with a 3.4 (down from a 3.6). Worst yet, heritage Star 94 is 16th in share with a 3.1 (down from a 3.2). Q is 7th in cume with over 860,000, and right behind it with about 855,000 is Star. In recent weeks Q-100's music mix has become more current based, and the station is also more Rhythmic/Pop friendly again. Rhythmic CHR 95.5 The Beat beat both Q and Star in share as well as in cume. The Beat is 5th in cume with over 900,000, and is tied for 12th in share with a 3.5.

The last batch of PPMs came out today.
In Pittsburgh, 96.1 Kiss FM zooms 3.9-5.1, good for 9th place in share. Cume-wise they're ranked 4th, closing in on 600,000 listeners (currently with 586,000). Rival B-94 stays flat with a 3.7 share (good for 11th place), and is down a bit in cume, but still over over half a million strong.
In Baltimore adult leaning CHR Mix 106.5 had a great month moving 6.7 to a 7.2, and up to over 750,000 listeners. They're second in cume, and 4th in share. As has been reported a couple of days ago, Baltimore just got a new CHR called Z-104.3, formerly alternative Channel 104.3. Incidentally, Channel was up 2.1-2.7 in its last month, and also cumed over 330,000 listeners.
Over in Denver Hot 107.1 is up 1.9-2.3 share though it was down a bit in cume to around 330,000 listeners. KONN Hot 107.1's signal in some parts of the metro. Rival KPTT 95.7 The Party is a former Rhythmic A/C station that still leans heavily on Rhythmic (they still havent added Kings of Leon). KPTT is down 3.3-2.7, and also down a bit in cume where it fell below the half a million mark to about 480,000.
