PRE SUBER BOWL: FEDS SHUT DOWN 16 "ILLEGAL" STREAMING SPORTS SITES

What's the point of these Super Bowl sites? Is it to bring the Super Bowl to other nations where they don't get it? It would seem most Americans could get it in the USA. Also most Americans want to see the ads.

I realize they shut them down because in principal they're illegal and should be, but it seems like the Super Bowl people should just make a legal way to view it. Let's face it, sports are one of the things you want on a TV not a computer, so I reckon not a lot of people would choose that option anyway

Since I don't have cable, I must admit to watching plenty of KU basketball and football games on firstrowsports.tv. If you wanted to watch rugby from New Zealand or soccer from Turkey for example, they had a lot of international feeds to keep you busy.

In the UK, most of the American football season is only available via premium sports channels on satellite or cable so lots of people use these sorts of sites. However the 'bowl itself is on the BBC for all to see.

People in the UK also use these sorts of sites to watch Saturday 3pm soccer games which aren't allowed to be screened live at all in the UK, or to watch other games that are otherwise only on premium channels. Also to avoid paying for PPV boxing.

Domestic use of these sort of sites seems to be tolerated in the UK but any sports bar daft enough to use one openly (and a few have tried) would soon be getting an unwelcome knock on the door.

Considering time zone differences, is the Super Bowl seen live in the UK, or is it tape delayed for telecast at a more convenient time for viewers?

It's shown live. Kick off is 11.25pm UK time, with the broadcast due to finish at 4am. On a work/school night. Which probably explains why American Football has never got beyond 'cult' status in the UK!

Many really 'hardcore' NFL fans (and there are a few in the UK) will book the Monday off work
As it happens I'm on a late shift Monday so I might stay up and watch.

In Canada, we don't get to see the US commercials, even on the US channels on cable. :'(

Thanks in part to "simsubbing", where the Canadian broadcast is broadcast over the American broadcast on most cable and satellite systems in Canada, in a way to force viewers to watch the Canadian telecast with Canadian commercials. It's also for this reason that CTV (and previously, Global) used the American network's feed instead of the international feed, as programs to be simsubbed must have 95% of the same content on the Canadian broadcast.

Where commercials are concerned, while Canadians are hankering for the same ads as the Americans, I imagine that viewers in other countries watch the Super Bowl just for the sport, as US ads have no relevancy overseas (and in the BBC's case, they can't show commercials).
