Predictions for louisville ky radio in 2008 please chime in...

For fun thought i would do this and want everyone to add there prediction.I am basing this on what some people have said on here over the past year and my opinion well i think someone will go after 84 whas do not know who but someone and rightfully they should. 105.1 wlrs will become either a talk station or a jack type station probably fresh 105.1 and the max will drop 80s and the new station at 105.1 will go after that market. Max should start saying 90s and now more in your face.I bet country moves from 103.9 to 103.1 and goes head to head with wamz. Should be fun to watch or should i say listen!!!And chris randolph the new morning partner for kelly k just kidding don't see that happening!!!

Merry christmas guys and gals

Hotpatrick out

I predict disgraced former WDJX promo guy Todd "Bear" Kelly will get his own radio show in prison. It will be entitled, Drop The Soap. Good luck Fraud-Bear!

1. Chris Randolph is Peter B's replacement.
2. The Fox gets sold to Cumulus.
3. Mainline rebrands WLRS.
4. 1570 The Zone flips.
5. 93.9fm-1450am becomes ESPN radio.
6. 105.9 gets sold to Cumulus.

Hmmm...

1) Mainline brings in their consultant to make changes in first quarter.
2) Clear Channel spins off 93.1 and 1080
3) Salem spins off 900, 970, 94.7 and 105.9
4) Cumulus purchases 1080, 93.1, 900, 970 and 94.7
5) Educational Media Foundation purchases 105.9
6) 103.1 becomes K103 - Louisville's Best Country
7) 103.9 becomes 103.9 WRKA - The Superhits of the 70's and 60's.
8) Max moves into an AC format
9) 105.1 WLRS moves into a Pop Alternative format
10) Chris Randolph replaces Peter B

What would Cumulus do with 3AM's?

What would Cumulus do with 3AM's?
Actually they would have 4 am's since they already own Jeffersonville indiana's 1450 AM along with the new 93.9 move in from seymour

If im not mistaken, Cumulus could rightfully own 3AM and 4FM signals in Louisville. They will most likely keep the big stations in the market (900 / 970 / 1080) and spin the other off to someone prive.

They can own 4 FM properties including (93.1 / 93.9 / 94.7) Ive been hearing rumblings that CC wants to eventually dump 98.9 and maybe...just maybe Salem sells Cumulus the entire shoot and match, so that would also give them 105.9

What formats?

900 GOSPEL
970 NEWS/TALK
1080 TALK
93.1 ACTIVE ROCK
93.9 (ESPN but I doubt it stays that format)
94.7 RHYTHMIC CHR ?
105.9 NEWS/TALK FM ?

Just thinking out loud here...

Why would the max go ac ?Look at what happenend when they blew lrs up into love 102.3.How did that work for them not to well so why try it again? You know the old saying studpidity is doing the same thing and expecting different results but i do think someone should go up against wvez and i would love to see someone take on 84 whas they have crossed the line with the firing of joe elliott not that he was a great talk show host its the principle of the matter all this syndicated crap is ridiculous!!! Wheres the local flavor???We also need an overnight local talkshow.

Everyone seems to agree on randolph getting peter b's soon to be old job!!!I remember when Randolph started on kiss and he poked fun at peter b and kelly k not cool!!!

So in a nutshell the max goes to what they were in 1999 after wlrs was blown up and 105.1 becomes similar to what the max is today is that what your saying?

Ya could be right who knows!!!

Kentucky Media is once again making crap up as he goes...why would 1031 become "K103"... true they may flip WRKA and WPTI frequency's.. but I love how you have already branded the stations-- get a grip, and better yet get a life!

WXMA "Max" has already been a AC station.. anyone remember WULV? The MAX does well, and makes money-- it's not going anywhere.. not to mention the Ops Manager is the morning host.. that's George's baby...

Chris Randolf back @ DJX? Doubt it

Okay since im just blowing smoke out the back of my ass, let me evaluate this.

Cox has one of America's greatest Country Consultants on board with their Country stations. Their Country outlets do a lot of justice for billing as well, they make nice coin on all of them.

Mainline is going to do something, they didnt bring in Coleman to pay them 200,000 and look pretty, now if you think they did...sad, sad. Mainline means business and they want to make radio profitable for them, so they do have changes in line im sure.

If Country moves to 103.1 will it remain country? Any good researcher is going to tell you, if you want to take down the cash-cow, you have to buy the farm next door. What that means is you have to run after them head on and someone is going to be bruised the next morning...thats the truth!

Cox has a TON of country experience and their country stations fare extremely well. If you move "New Country" to 103.1, they will most likely design it to battle WAMZ. Leaving it the way it is will do just what it is now. Because it has a bigger signal doesnt mean jack-ish. Its not the size, its how you use it...ever hear of that saying? They will use promotions, they will staff it and they will battle WAMZ.

WAMZ is safe, but...they have some major weaknesses and Cox can see right through those. They know where to go in and do some damage, AND THEY WILL!

WHAS is also extremely weak in certain areas. Yes they have local sports locked up, but dont be too surprised to see Clear Channel screw the pooch there too. They will ruin something and UK / UL will run.

WHAS is also weak in certain dayparts. I was talking to someone today and they said...WAMZ has the money and so does WHAS, no one will ever hurt them...WRONG! Mainline and Cox both know that Cumulus and Clear Channel have restricted budgets. Yes they have a couple million to spend, but the other companies know that when Bain takes over, those reigns are going to be pulled so tight Francine wont be able to see straight.

Salem is going to sell Louisville, it is by far one of their smallest markets. The stations can also bring nice coin to Salem who is in need of some minor financing in 2009.

Someone who could launch a "IN YOUR FACE", "HEAVILY MARKETED", "WELL RESEARCHED" country format will do extremely well. Someone who could do a local leaning News/Talk station with great branding could upset WHAS. Clear Channel knows this and are they worried...a little, but Louisville is at the lower end of their worries.

A lot will happen in 08, you just have to be willing to accept that it will.

I don't doubt you kentucky media you seem to know whats up in this market but my question to you is why do you think the max will go back to an ac when they tried that already but if they go fresh it is a younger skewing ac so that might be it?Why would they tinker with the max when it bills well it just seems to me the most urgent matter at hand for them would be the disaster at 105.1 the station for 13 yr olds lol

I wonder if sales are suffering now on 84 whas from 9pm-12am???

Anyone have any idea???

Bring on the changes this terrestrial radio market needs a good cleansing!!!A flip here a tweaking there!!!

i predict that 93.9 will do very well for two reasons:
1. it's espn. espn is a name that draws, no matter how horrible the product is. and the product is horrible. other than espnews (and even that is starting to slip a little) or watching my favorite teams, you couldn't pay me to watch espn otherwise. but i know that a lot of people will flock to espn just because its espn.

2. wkrd's 101.7 signal is extremely weak. how weak? so weak that my sangean hdt hd component radio has trouble picking up a signal. i have a wonderful device called the radioshark that is a usb radio for your computer. it can't pick up up 101.7 at all. but both can pick up 93.9 with no static or interference at all. i use the radioshark as a basic signal strength meter because it has a considerably weaker antenna than the big radio. it can pick up pretty much all fm signals to some degree but picks up nothing but static at 101.7. this is even after using an old pair of earbuds as an antenna extension.

i predict a ratings dropoff at whas because of all the syndication

i predict another big name at whas will also be fired/released/not renewed

and i will end with a huge prediction that is coming way out of right field- i predict that louisville will have a progressive talk station on the air

aha..your right, i never thought of that but progressive talk is finding a marketable niche in many markets, especially the conservative ones.

Cumulus could do Progressive Talk!

WHAS is in major trouble, there are too many open holes that Clear Channel doesnt have the financing to go patch.

WAMZ has a brand and yes its heritage, but Heritage radio stations can suck too. WAMZ is weak in the sense that its so heritage it plays on that strength. Dont get what im seeing here? Well, look at it like when you so comfortable you just get lazy...same thing.

Cox could easily pull WAMZ down another 2 or 3 shares with a well programmed, strong staffed station.

So okay they keep Max, but drop the fricking 80's. Thats whats killing you...it was designed to be a maximum music mix of the 90's and today.

WLRS is in a pickle, but it fills a void. I dont care if you dont like it or not, it has a following and you gotta remember, male alternatives have problems in ratings because the sampling. If the station is well positioned, you could really see Mainline having a kick ass ALTERNATIVE after the Coleman research is complete.

I love the alt format but wlrs is not an alt station and has terrible air talent keep the format but rebrand it get rid of the calls wlrs they have been so damaged over the years and the station kentuckymedia don't know if you like that kinda music but it truly is a poorly programmed active/alt station and joe what a horriblke jock whom ever hired him at radio one should be banned from radio for eternity!!!Blow it up and start from scratch!!!There research should show them how damaged beyond repair the wlrs name is!!!Do something like she 93.1 was in the late 90s or 94.9 the sound in cinncinati or like radio 104.5 is in philli those are decent commercial alts that seem to do well.Anyone i have talked to 20s 30s whatever can't stand wlrs and can't stand joe!!!

Something to balance out wfpk would be nice!!!

Thats what I was thinking...

RADIO 105 - TRULY INDEPENDENT

Cumulus purchases 105.1, 101.7. 93.9 The Ticket will be dropped and ESPN will go on 101.7. 93.9 will go Country, modeled after WFMS in Indy. 105.1 will be Mainstream Talk. Cox puts SFR on 103.1 after the maneurvering is finished and finishes the demise of WQMF. They tighten up 103.9 and slowly saw away at WAMZ. Salem stays for now.
