Thats a good concept, except its pretty clear that Salem will be selling Louisville in the next couple years.
Why Would Cumulus if the Purchas 105.1 go Mainstream Talk when they have now blown up 2 of their FM talkers since 11-15 with WWFT in Indianapolis in the midst of being christmas heading to an unknown format at this time. and Just Yesterday they Dumped WFTK in Cincinnati for 96 Rock. so i think if they wont be trying FM talk in a market other than Nashville anytime Soon. And anyways who would cumulus have for Hosts when between 840, 970 and 1080 most of the talkers are taken on a national level.LOUISVILLE ROCKER said:Cumulus purchases 105.1, 101.7. 93.9 The Ticket will be dropped and ESPN will go on 101.7. 93.9 will go Country, modeled after WFMS in Indy. 105.1 will be Mainstream Talk. Cox puts SFR on 103.1 after the maneurvering is finished and finishes the demise of WQMF. They tighten up 103.9 and slowly saw away at WAMZ. Salem stays for now.
O'Reilly, Dr Laura, Mancow, Glenn Beck, Levin, Humprhies, Etc. all were either on both WFTK in Cincinnati and WWFT in indianapolis and look where those 2 stations are now Radioville in the grave with a Now Rock format in terms of WFTK and Playing Christmas music till December 26 in the case of WWFT. so i dont think cumulus will do a talk format on FM if they get another station in louisville. Nashville for them is a miracle of it surviving. Indy and Cincy both failures in FM Talk for them.radioville said:Bill O'Reilly, Dr. Laura, Mancow, Glenn Beck, Levin, Humphries etc.

Cox has one of America's greatest Country Consultants on board with their Country stations. Their Country outlets do a lot of justice for billing as well, they make nice coin on all of them.
Mainline is going to do something, they didnt bring in Coleman to pay them 200,000 and look pretty, now if you think they did...sad, sad. Mainline means business and they want to make radio profitable for them, so they do have changes in line im sure.
If Country moves to 103.1 will it remain country? Any good researcher is going to tell you, if you want to take down the cash-cow, you have to buy the farm next door. What that means is you have to run after them head on and someone is going to be bruised the next morning...thats the truth!
Cox has a TON of country experience and their country stations fare extremely well. If you move "New Country" to 103.1, they will most likely design it to battle WAMZ. Leaving it the way it is will do just what it is now. Because it has a bigger signal doesnt mean jack-ish. Its not the size, its how you use it...ever hear of that saying? They will use promotions, they will staff it and they will battle WAMZ.
WAMZ is safe, but...they have some major weaknesses and Cox can see right through those. They know where to go in and do some damage, AND THEY WILL!
WHAS is also extremely weak in certain areas. Yes they have local sports locked up, but dont be too surprised to see Clear Channel screw the pooch there too. They will ruin something and UK / UL will run.
WHAS is also weak in certain dayparts. I was talking to someone today and they said...WAMZ has the money and so does WHAS, no one will ever hurt them...WRONG! Mainline and Cox both know that Cumulus and Clear Channel have restricted budgets. Yes they have a couple million to spend, but the other companies know that when Bain takes over, those reigns are going to be pulled so tight Francine wont be able to see straight.
Salem is going to sell Louisville, it is by far one of their smallest markets. The stations can also bring nice coin to Salem who is in need of some minor financing in 2009.
Someone who could launch a "IN YOUR FACE", "HEAVILY MARKETED", "WELL RESEARCHED" country format will do extremely well. Someone who could do a local leaning News/Talk station with great branding could upset WHAS. Clear Channel knows this and are they worried...a little, but Louisville is at the lower end of their worries.
A lot will happen in 08, you just have to be willing to accept that it will.

Research sucks & so do consultants. So do board ops who are hired to watch and monitor stations but decide to talk on their cell phones the entire shift.
Let's not forget about all the "know it all " board op's who are playing on this board during the entire shift!![]()
