"Price is Right" Kids' Episode to air on Friday (May 3)

While home sick today from work I noticed a promo for a kids' version of TPIR that is now slated to air Friday, which was apparently supposed to air on April 18 but postponed due to news reports on the Boston bombing. Related story:

My question: Will the Kids' TPIR feature kids' commercials, or can we expect those kids who actually see the show asking their parents, "Mommy, can we get Medicare? I want a Hoveround!" instead? :D Or could the commercials that air be similar (for one day) to those that air ad nauseum on CBS Saturday morning kids' shows (Gerber college savings plans, etc.).

And also--other than Tivos/DVR, how many kids will actually be able to watch this because of school? More appropriate for prime-time IMO.
 
TPIR has JUMPED THE SHARK I tell you! Excuse me as I go look at an old Bob Barker episode from the Rod Roddy 1990s days...

^What do you believe was the moment the program "jumped the shark", or the moment the program started to decline in quality?
 
It declined when Bob Barker left - actually, a few years before he left. The "old age" problems seemed to get to him a bit. Some game show people thought TPIR was unwatchable in season 33, 34, 35. Then Drew Carey came on, and now has completely declined and jumped the shark.

I feel the same way. I have not seen an entire new edition of the program since the first edition of the program's 37th series of editions (or 37th season) was originally broadcast in 2009 (the few times I saw new editions of the program since then were while I was changing TV channels). I had realized by that time the program was not getting better but getting worse.

The only editions of the program I would want to watch are any editions produced before Bob Barker left the program. I would even watch the editions from the 33rd, 34th, and 35th series of programs again in spite of some negative comments about them.
 
I must correct part of my previous message: I have not seen an entire new edition of the program since the first edition of the program's 38th series of editions was originally broadcast in 2009, not the 37th series.  
 
I used to be a Price is Right fan, but I lost interest in it. If I'm home at 11AM I either watch nothing or NBC 30 News. I don't like Drew as the host of Price is Right either. I've been a hostage viewer however. When I go to one of my favorite Chinese restaurant for lunch I usually go during the 11AM hour and they usually have Channel 3 on. (They're too cheap to get cable).
 
I lost interest when Johnny Olsen passed away. Rod Roddy was a fun touch but some of the magic was gone. Then again, as the original models started to leave that made it easy to not come back as well.
 
Drew Carey was selected as host (I'll give him kudos for wanting to be called "host" as opposed to "star" like Bob had for a moniker) practically sight-unseen...... I have read that Drew's performance on "Power of 10" resulted in money thrown at him, even though he didn't even want the job as TPIR host.

There were many incidents that really would normally cause TPIR to jump-the-shark since Drew came on board, but for some reason, I understand that the ratings are still decent. Of course, they never came to me about it....

This one incident was truly the low point----

Roger Dobkowitz wrote a long article about Drew Carey (I think it's around here somewhere). He said that if Bob was still hosting that 37th season, the media, press and audience would be RIGHT on him! There would be the DSW whoops, and a spectacular Bob Barker reaction. With Drew, he felt like it never happened. Zero reaction what so ever. Should have fired Drew years ago, from that fact.

I guess I get to be the contrarian here. I don't watch much TPIR anymore, but I really like Drew Carey from what I've seen. He's grown into the hosting duties on show. Truth be told, I'd rather see him than Bob Barker these days. I'd pray before every episode that poor Bob's 89-year-old ticker doesn't give out at the Double Showcase whooping sound or when one of his beloved Samoan contestants comes on down.

But if I have to pick a favorite era of the show, then I'm with Bill DeFelice on this. Nothing compares to the days of Bob and his never-ending supply of hair dye, Johnny Olson and his thick-rimmed glasses, and Barker's Beauties who were heavenly in that '70s and early '80s kind of way. You young whippersnappers with your years of white-haired Bob and Rod Roddy's amazing technicolor dreamcoats, I'm tellin' ya...

Bob's hosting style was already getting stodgy in his last few years, especially when he was trying to build up some suspense (to the groans of viewers). Also, the interaction between Bob and his Beauties was long gone, and that proved to be a turn-off.

Drew, on the other hand, brought back the livelier, big event feel TPIR had originally lost since Johnny Olson's death. And unlike Bob, he can withstand bear hugs or even Samoans. And those special themed shows/weeks? Bob would be AGAINST them if he was still hosting today (during Big Money Week recently, Pay The Rent was finally won but one contestant missed out on a $285,000 Ferrari -- the biggest prize ever offered in TPIR's 57-year history -- in 3 Strikes)!

Excuse me, but last I checked, the show was still pulling in about 5 million viewers (which is more than some NBC prime time shows). Until 2009, the show frequently used the same prizes and same features with the same prices. In this case, it was a guy named Ted, a loyal fan of the show and frequent poster at golden-road.net (a priceisright.com enemy board) who helped Terry Kniess get it down to $24,000. The 743 part, according to accounts was Terry's PIN number for something.

That was not a shark jumping moment, contrary to your opinion. I don't think I've found a shark moment, yet. As to last week's Big Money Week.....Hey, there were no shortage of ideas if the Million Dollar Spectaculars return!
